Today we unexpectedly lost Dastra. She was nearly 15 years old. Tiffany had house guests, but left them without hesitation. Helped by my friend Kathy, Tif and I buried Dastra. Mos, who was visibly upset helped by directing us girls in the burial. I am feeling very sad, but I also know she lived a good life with us, and a long life. Dastra was vibrant and active to the very end. Goodbye sweet girl.
Rest in peace, sweet girl—you will be missed.
Run free, Dastra. I am giving Chopper extra love in your honor.
Tiff & Julie,
I am so sorry for your loss. Dastra was such a good girl, she will be missed by all. I could always count on being greeted by Dastra anytime I visited the Alta-Tollhaus Compound. Rest In Peace Sweet Girl and be free.
Julie, I’m always awake, when I should be sleeping, before early Sunday morning SAR training. Thought I would check in at home (feels like home) and glad I did! Your photo of Dastra is lovely. Peter and I will love our Rudi a little bit more tomorrow. With deep sympathy and love to you, Mos, Tif, Kathy and our Alta-Tollhaus Family and Dastra. JH
A long and good life on this earth but, for those who loved her, all too brief. I am glad that a bit of her unique spirit lives on in my precious Chevy girl. Julie and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Run free, sweet and beautiful girl. You are missed.
Julie I’m sorry for your loss of sweet Dastra
Oh so sorry to hear. She can say hey to my girl.
Betsy
I am so sorry to hear this news. Dastra’s bright nature shines through the picture you posted. My thoughts are with you, Mos, and Tiffany.
So sorry for your loss. What a beautiful girl and what a wonderful life she had with you. Chris & Rita
Julie, I’m very sorry for your loss. I wish these dogs could live forever. I really hope brody can live to 15. Brody and I send our love
Dastra was such a pretty girl, and your family gave her such a wonderful life Julie. R.I.P. Dastra!
I’m sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful girl. RIP sweet Dastra.
With tears in my eyes I send you this message of sympathy. It is never an easy time when a loved one leaves us. May we always be comforted by the wonderful dogs that are still with us.
Julie – I confess that I read your post about Dastra this morning, but I was just too upset to respond. I have thought of you much of the day today — I am so sorry for your loss. I could be mistaken, but I believe that you brought Dastra to the first class I took from you with my Golden, Mighty Casey.
I was particularly upset by your loss because it was ten short days ago that we lost our senior dog, Stanley Cup. He was 12 and a half years old — and while not an Alta-Tollhaus GSD, he was our first GSD. He was definitely top dog around here — and the chief of security. Kaline was some big paws to fill…. so to speak…
Again, Julie, my thoughts are with you and I am so sorry for your loss.
Laura I am so sorry to hear about Stanley Cup, I know you loved him like crazy.
Yes Dastra was the GSD you met in your first class with Casey. Dastra was my “puppy-class” dog for many years. She was a wonderful class assistant, wonderful with people and perfect with the other puppies. As she got older, she suffered some vision and hearing loss, plus was tender in a few places and sometimes even petting her in the wrong spot hurt her.
I’m so sorry to hear about Dastra.
Thank you everyone for your kind words. All Dastra wanted to do her entire life was to please. Even in death she made things as easy for me as possible.
