I know that this is a long shot..but on the off chance someone might know this dog:
This spring, a bi-color, female, working line shepherd was found in Vermont. The dog has had some obvious sport training – someone has put work into her. At the time she was found, they could not find a microchip. No tattoo. She has been living with a Vermont Animal Control Officer since then.
She was rescanned recently – they found her chip had migrated. She has a French chip. The Canadian registries do not recognize her, nor do any of the American registries. The French registries are less than helpful. These people have posted all over the place about her and cannot find her owner.
I’m amazed that her owner isn’t tearing apart New England looking for her – though, they may think she’s dead by now. Does anyone remember any reports of a lost working line dog from this spring? If so, I will put you in contact with the rescue person helping this dog.
Obviously this female was imported …which is never inexpensive, especially with the Euro – USD conversion rates. I hope she can be reconnected with her owner.
I hope so too. I’m sure she wasn’t cheap – and her owner has clearly worked with her. Supposedly she has a very nice heel, moving stand, moving down, recall, bark and hold…but doesn’t seem to recognize an A frame.
It just makes me sick to my stomach to think about something like that happening. She’s lucky to have fallen into kind hands.
The dog is ring sport trained. The list of commands she apparently knows is impressive, considering that she performed them for someone not her owner/handler. Still unclaimed, but Kandi of Rokanhaus is taking her for now.
If you can get a photo of her, please send it to me. I will publish it in the next issue of the WDA magazine along with a little blurb. CarsinGSD@gmail.com
Carole, that would be AWESOME. I’m working on getting the picture as we speak. They are still trying to work with the French chip company but are hitting walls left and right. I’m glad that a working person is taking her while they try to find her owner….the ACO was very kind to take her in but doesn’t know much about dogs, let alone working dogs.
UPDATE: They heard back from the French microchip company. This particular kind of chip was actually sold to a South African chip registry in 2004. So….this dog actually came from South Africa?
This is like a soap opera…I hope we figure the mystery out.
Nevertheless, still trying to get a picture for Carole….
Jaime, thank you for working on getting a photo!
