Nikon & our Hector would get along great. We’ve wanted to enter him in the dock jumping contest, which they have every summer during Cherry Festival. I’m sure he’d win the hearts of everyone. The more spectacular the leap the better, especially when his favorite stick is needing a rescue. He’ll take on any Golden Retriever for the challenge. And amazingly enough, his love of the water has “trickled” down to our 10yo Katy who was afraid of getting her face wet until Hector came along. A little healthy competition doesn’t hurt.
I’ve thought of entering Ekko in the Cherry Fest dock dog contest as well, but I’m usually busy putting on the canoe race the same day. Ekko might not jump the farthest, but he’s bound to make the biggest splash – unless there is a Newfie there. The hard part would be getting him to leave the pool.
You can’t keep Ekko out of the water – literally. He has to be dragged out of Good Harbor Bay. At one canoe race in the UP on the Taq river, Ekko planted his feet on the river bottom near the finish line and refused to move until all the canoes finished. Michele was a little bit embarrassed that she couldn’t persuade Ekko to get out of the river no matter what she did.
I still laugh when I think of that story!!!
Now that would have been something to have photographed! I can just see Ekko standing in the water waiting for each canoe to arrive.
Make sure to take pictures if Hector does the dock diving!
Good to hear from you Karen.
