Hal, let me know if this is Kudzu. I had to look it up on the net—from the photos that I found, I think this is it. It grows like crazy and will just consume a tree and anything else in its way.

I don’t know Julie—we will have to wait to see what Hal has to say since he is the Kudzu expert. All I know is this stuff will take over a tree, and the vines are so thick & strong that Tarzan could swing from it. No grapes for certain.

That is the stuff! I am no expert but although it looks awesome driving by it must be horrific in your own garden. I did research too and it has so many uses increases nitrogen in soil, deep roots transfer minerals from subsoil to topsoil, uncompacts creating space in hardened clay type soil allowing water to go both up & down, came be feed for livestock (it is a legume) & contains starch. Medicinal …”Kudzu contains useful isoflavones daidzein (anti-inflammatory-anti-microbial), daidzin (cancer preventive), genistein (antileukemic agent) … and on and on affects neurotransmitters recommended for allergies & diarrhea in Chinese Medicine. This isn’t much consolation to anyone being taken over by it. I have a trumpet vine that was o so pretty when I moved there but now is a bane. Thank you for taking these exact photos !! Hal
You are welcome, Hal! Thanks for the great info. Maybe I should start eating this stuff.
One time we were clearing some kudzu that was choking one of our trees. We hooked the vine to the bumper of a truck to pull it out—a huge tree limb snapped off—the vine remained!
sort of looks like wild grape?
