Hi everyone! Below are some pictures that Joe took today of Schumi. He’s been itchy lately (Julie and Margot have been giving me great advice on dealing with this; thank you!), but even though he has some spots with less fur, I swear he’s looking flufflier every day! He’ll be 11 months next week; I can’t believe that’s he’s almost a year old. A few weeks ago at the vet he weighed 79 pounds! People are always telling us they can’t believe that he’s “only a puppy and he’s that big!”
Anyway, Schumi and I have been keeping busy; we are almost done with the conformation class we are taking, and then after that we will do a competition obedience class. Joe and I have been having lots of fun going to Schutzhund training at Julie’s place each week also. Chris and Ron have shown me some ways to build ball drive and obedience skills at home, so every night I do a mini session with that and Schumi loves it! It really helps him to become more focused on me, instead of the grass, birds, dogs, and anything else around him at that moment. 😉
Hi Becky!
It sounds like you & Schumi have had a busy schedule. It is great that you are working with him. Third photo—that is Mr. RUDI! You can definitely tell that they are brothers!
They are right Schumi & Hayden do resemble one another … no wonder I like him so much! Hal
Hi Becky!
YES, the third photo IS Rudi! Congrats on your conformation classes. I’m jealous Peter and I don’t live closer to all of you until I see the snow photos. We, more honestly ME, needs more work when it comes to conformation. Julie would kick my butt if we lived closer, thank God Carole lives over four hours away…I’m sure she’d give me a swift kick too.
Rudi begins his SAR training with the SW Florida K9 Search Unit this Sunday. We are not “real” members yet, but I’m sure Rudi will be brilliant and I’ve trained SAR before. Really looking forward to getting started.
So what are you doing for the itching? Rudi and Hilda have just started itching and I put K9Advantix on them this morning. Also, I add salmon oil to their Nature’s Variety diet. Does Schumi like to eat? Rudi could care less about food, just want’s to play all day. Guess he won’t starve, weighed 77.2 lbs. 2 weeks ago. I call him slim…among other names I won’t mention. 😉 Thanks for sharing your Schumi!
JH
He is beautiful!!!:)
Even in his head shot you can see what a goofy-adolescent boy he is. Give a year or two before he starts looking like a “man.”
Julie H,
The vet gave Schumi some steriods to help with the itching and they work great, the only problem is it’s basically masking the problem. Margot suggested watering down nonscented bath oil and rubbing that into his skin, so that’s what I’ve been doing. Julie also gave us an ointment for the tips of his ears, which were really dry and patchy from his itching. Now he’s on the steriods every other day, and he’s itching a bit, but it’s not really a major problem anymore. I hope it stays that way!
What is SAR training? I would like to hear about that.
Schumi does love to eat. He scarfs his food down but then doesn’t give it another thought until we feed him again!
I would like to see some pictures of Rudi please! 🙂
I sent Julie a photo of Rudi with the Easter Bunny. We have difficulty posting photos on the blog, I don’t know what I do incorrectly. I think she may post it, though I cut off the bunny’s head.
Rudi doesn’t have so much itching that he needs steriods. I think it’s just the outside insects down here. I’ve a friend in TX and her beagle is having terrible problems with allergies since moving there over a year ago. He seems to be doing better and the steriod shots have helped, he’s taking less of them.
SAR is Search and Rescue. I think Rudi will be brilliant…perhaps I’m partial being the owner and all. Play is a very important factor as well as his nose, he LOVES to play.
Does Schumi have a black spot on his tongue? Rudi has one.
Julie
Yes he has a black spot! Look at the pic Julie just posted, you can see it there! 🙂
Yes, when I breezed through the blog to see if you posted back I noticed it and asked just to make sure it wasn’t a leaf or something. Schumi and Rudi really are twins! JH 🙂
