What with all the new puppy pics (and I want to snuggle each and every one of them), I figured it was time for a Pieka update. By the way, Pieka is officially “Alta-Tollhaus Bali.” We needed a name in keeping with the “B” theme – and Bali sounded nice when it was ten degrees in Ohio!
Things have been relatively quiet in Columbus. The weather was pretty horrible for about a month – temperatures remained below freezing and we had about 3-4 inches of solid ice covering everything! Blech!
But it warmed up, the snow melted, and we’ve been able to get started in tracking. Here are a couple of pictures of Pieka working on scent circles:
And of course, no outing is worthwhile unless we play a good game of fetch. Pieka is becoming quite the retriever. Except that she sometimes still drops the ball a wee bit early….
And thank goodness, now that she’s done teething, she’s back to tugging like a champ. She got a little wimpy on me during teething. We especially love the bungee tugs we got at Susan Garrett’s puppy camp. We have a couple of sheepskin tugs, a fleece, and a rabbit tug. The bungee reduces impact and they are long, which makes it easy not to crank her head up.
Pieka looks awfully proud of herself, doesn’t she? Notice the filthy tongue. That’s my delicate flower, all right.
Great Pieka update! You are doing a wonderful job with her. I can see where Alta-Tollhaus Bali will have a long list of titles after her name.
Thank you for the Pieka update! Not unusal for the pups to get wimpy on the tugging at during the worst of their teething. Even that maniac Nikon was slacking on his tugging for awhile.
Doing scent circles was such a clever innovation. I don’t know who to credit it with, but it was out of the box thinking. We use to start with tracks as absolutely straight as possible for ad nauseum. Then when we would introduce corners some dogs had problems with it.
I should try some AKC style tracking with Kira and Funny. I am not going to do any tracking with Onion or Allie at this time since they have to learn the schutzhund tracking first and I am clueless about it.
Pieka is very pretty and she has good structure and movement. Darn that long hair!
Peika is a lovely girl! You have so much to look forward to with her and she will enjoy every bit of it!
