This was the temperament test that we used to test this litter. I don’t always do “official” temperament test on litters, but decided to with this litter. here is a link to the test I used:
The first test is to put the puppy into an area with a stranger and observe their reaction. All the puppies scored a 3 on this one. Puppies greeted Nick readily with tail up and wagging. The Following Test all pups scored either 2 or 3. Restraint Test all scored 3 or 4, but here we found other nuances that were not exactly listed but we selected the ones that fit most closely. Elevation Dominance and Sound Sensitivity all the pups scored exactly the same, 3 and 4 respectively.
This is how they define a puppy they scores predominately 3’s:
Mostly 3’s:
This dog accepts human leaders easily. Is best prospect for the average owner, adapts well to new situations and generally good with children and elderly, although it may be inclined to be active. Makes a good obedience prospect and usually has a common sense approach to life.
That a pack of Allie/Gorbi pups would score mostly 3’s on the temperament test is no surprise to me.
Is that test for all breeds or just shepherds? So from that description that means they would be good as family companions and not as good for Schutzhund? How does this test factor in their prey drive? Can you get a dog that would be excellent for schutzhund and get a score of three?
it is for all breeds. It is only a snapshot of the dogs at that one point in time. A good schutzhund needs to have very good temperament.
While all of the puppies scored the majority of “3’s” on the test, they all nearly scored a “1” on the visual test, which is where a rag was dragged on the ground. all of them chased it and most of them grabbed it in their mouth, some tried to run away with it, some shook it. They all scored a 4 on the sound test, they recognized the sound and looked in the direction it came from, but that was it.
