Julie may go into apoplectic shock, but I’ve run out of excuses not to post. It was sunny and warm last Saturday afternoon(now 2 weeks), so I wandered out the back door with da boys and remembered to take the little point & shoot Nikon. The beech and ash hadn’t changed color, but the sugar maples were nearly fully turned, and da boys felt energized by the cooler autumn air.
It’s funny, so many of the the highly photographed dogs on this site are females, and my guys just look so much different.
Ekko ( Esko/Rosie) and Kirsch VP, CGC (Hoss/Zucca) love our daily walk in the woods. Chipmunks, sticks, an occasional turkey, and squirrels provide Ekko the opportunity to exercise his high prey drive, while Kirsch harasses Ekko. These two guys have such different personalities. Ekko is intense, powerful, stubborn and solid. Kirsch glides, Ekko bruises the ground when he runs. Kirsch is a goofball, always happy, small children have run up and hugged him, much to their mothers distress. That never happens with Ekko. Kirsch has a favorite fun trick to get your attention, he runs up from behind you and runs between your legs, which was cute when he was a puppy, but can be an unexpected surprise now. That’s way too frivolous for Ekko. Kirsch is laid back and relaxed, but with a unabashed joy for life, and he always finds a way to be in front of a camera. I’ve got a tire jump and elevated dog walk in the back yard and Ekko couldn’t care less, but Kirsch loves to run them.
So, a break from the way too cute puppies, to a couple of bruisers, with Kirsch at 90 pounds, and Ekko, well, he makes Kirsch look little. Retrieving sticks is always a start to the walks, to burn off some excess energy. Ekko, of course, isn’t satisfied with only one stick.
So I see the stick “battle” wages on….
Great to hear about their progress and the photos are terrific! Isn’t fall the best season?
At 90 lbs Kirsch has surpassed brother Chief in weight – he peaked at 84 but slimmed down to 80 over the summer – probably all the added exercise. I’m sure we’ll all put on our “winter weight” real soon – can’t wait for that. I’ll be watching for your winter photos….take care.
Fall is a great time of year. The next month is pretty gray, but then I really enjoy snowshoeing with da boys after we get snow and deer season is over.
I don’t know why my guys are so big, maybe the water??? Both are at good weights, at least thats what the vet says. We trimmed Ekko down from 126 to 117 this summer, which is where the vet wants him, he looks real good at that weight and has *lots* of energy.
Kirsch is trim at his weight, and doesn’t have a big appetite. Ekko eats like a Lab, if we let him.
Garth
Garth,
Yes I am in shock, but this is a very pleasant surprise!!! You are right too many pictures of girl dogs on this blog about time for some testosterone-laden boy dogs. Good grief I can’t believe the size of your dogs!
You wanted a dog that would be a balance to Kirsch. It sounds like you got that in every regard except for the size. You didn’t come and see the litter as often as some of the owners did like Karen and Bill and his family. But Kirsch was the smallest male in the litter and Kimberly’s chief was the biggest male. Now Kirsch is the biggest and Chief is the smallest (of the two anyway). I always tell puppy buyers that you never know who will be the biggest and who will be the smallest. I always feel as if they think I am being evasive.
Kirsch reminds me of his mother in both looks and temperament. I love that last stick picture! LOL
Thank you Garth. It is always good to hear from you!
