Ok, so I’m not very good at posting pictures on the internet. The pictures I take are very large and I don’t know the best way to “scale them down” to post to the site. It seems some of the other picture posts look much clearer/crisper than mine and I know my originals are good I just don’t know how to edit it to post on the blog. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. FYI, I shoot in RAW format and convert to a JPEG before I post. The JPEG file is still huge and needs to be resized to fit the blog, I think this is where my trouble is. Thanks.
Joe
What I do is I convert to jpeg at 72 dpi I set the width at 5 to 7 inches. I think it looks better when they are all the same width.
At 72 dpi it is very low res but they load fast and that is all you need for the internet,
I have an account with Flickr and when you upload photos to their site they automatically give you several sizes to choose from. For blogs I use the “medium” size. It compresses and resizes the pictures for you.
Here is an example, I clicked on a picture in my Flickr photostream, clicked the All Sizes button above it, and you can see what the “medium” looks like plus the other size choices above it.

Flickr is free but there is a monthly limit. I pay $25/yr because I upload hundreds of photos each week so I have no limit.
Julie and Liesje, thanks for the suggestions. I will try those next time I upload some pictures. I like the idea of using a host site, I have had hard drive problems in the past and haven’t been too good about backing up, this seems like an effective way to back up the photos.
