Hi Julie,
I know you haven’t heard from us in awhile. I must admit that I’m obsessed with “Long Dangerous Tails”. I check it out several times a day always hoping for new posts. I just love seeing everyone’s dogs and all the new puppies.
Jager is still the love of my life. Although I’m not a “trainer”, he’s turned out to be a wonderful loving well mannered (not to mention beautiful) dog. He has gained his own title “V.L.F.D.”
(Very Loved Family Dog).
We’ve nicknamed him “movie star” because of all the attention he gets whenever we go out. He wins over everyone he meets. Some people are terrified of him, but I tell them all he will do is lick you to death!
When we go out of town and have to take him to the kennel, they comment on how he is the only GSD they’ve had stay there that truly LOVES to play with the other dogs. They always tell me what great temperament he has. I tell them he had a great breeder.
I have attached some current photos of him, in my bias opinion, I think he’s just gorgeous. For everyone out there he, is from the Esko x Sole breeding. I know he has 3 brothers out there….. but I’m not positive who they are, I “think” they are Johnny Angel, Jupiter and Jax…….. How ironic…they all start with the letter “J”.
Thank you so much for blessing me with such a wonderful dog. He has brought so much happiness to me and my family.
Nancy
Nancy, he is absolutely stunning! I have a Sole son…his name is Jake. (Another J!) He is a very sweet tempered boy as well.
Please keep the photos and posts coming.
Best,
Terri
Nancy, Jager is quite the looker! Thank you for sharing photos of him. There is no better title for any dog than VLFD! He seems quite happy with that title.
As for Long Dangerous Tails, there would probably be a long list of confessions as to how often we visit this site. Part of my morning routine is to stop by LDTs and see how my “family” is doing.
Carole, I too check here all the time! Sometimes people ask me for GSD breeder recommendations and I always recommend Julie AND tell them to check this blog for great pics of the dogs and their accomplishments!
I love this dog’s face and dark pigment. Stunning.
Lies, I know this will make Julie blush—I’ve known Julie to be one of the most reputable GSD breeders…long before I ever met her. I’ve always admired the high standards that she & Tiffany have set for their Alta-Tollhaus dogs. The GSD world is very small—good word gets around.
Jager is sooo handsome and what a nice tribute to his breeder. I love my Alta-Tolhaus shepherds – Chevy, Johnny Angel and Vida – and know exactly where my next shepherd will come from!
After breeding and training dogs for 30+ years, I can say that a well bred, healthy, intelligent family “pet” is a lofty goal that many breeders may aspire to but not many achieve. Julie and Tiffany may make it look easy but we all benefit from their hard work, knowledge and clear vision.
Jager is a very handsome boy. A German Shepherd “should” be bred to be a wonderful family dog. We all too many who are not. Julie has more than achieved that all important goal. Then for the rest of the multi-talented, multi-titled shepherds she has and has bred – well, AMAZING! And, yes, such a benefit for the rest of us … I love your comment, Margot, about clear vision – so true.
With regard to the “addiction” to visiting Long Dangerous Tails … well count me in. I so like that you all feel like family. I will post frequently about my new boy, Aslan, and can barely wait to get him!
Oh, Nancy, I love the second photo where you can see the tennis ball and finger – his focus :~)
OK you guys are embarrassing me! I have always said it and I will say it again: I only get them started if they didn’t go to GREAT homes with GREAT owners and become V.L.F.D.’s then they would not be as wonderful as they are. Just like raising children the parents should get most of the credit! The real trick to having great dogs is getting them into the hands of fabulous people like all of YOU!
Hello Everyone,
Wow, you all amaze me with the wonderful, caring comments. Thank you all. But Julie obviously gets the credit for his looks. God has blessed her and Tiffany with a gift!
Jager is my first GSD, I’m so glad that I researched breeders for about a year before I contacted Julie. When I saw him as a pup it was love at first sight. I can’t explain it, I just “felt” something for him. I’ll admit I was a bit nervous about the training because I had never trained a dog on my own, let alone a GSD. I went to Julie’s Puppy class and got a great start. I found that Jager was so easy to train, he’s so intelligent, that is directly linked to his breeding!
Per Julie’s advise, I socialized him…..a lot…uuugh maybe too much. See one of the reasons I got a GSD was for protection (as well as VLFD :). I live out in the country and am home alone with a young child quite a bit because my husband works out of town a lot. So I thought I would feel more comfortable with a GSD. Well, he now loves people so much that when strangers come into the yard, he greets them with not just a tail wag, but a “whole body” wag, like they are long lost friends. I’m sure that he will know the difference if a “bad guy” ever comes around. At least I hope so 🙂 But he’s such a sweetie, he loves everyone!
Thanks again for all of the great comments.
Nancy
Julie—quit blushing! What you said about great owners is very true. However, it begins with the breeder.
Nancy—don’t worry about your boy being too friendly. When push comes to shove, he’ll be there to protect you. Just one of the great qualities of a GSD!
Nancy,
Do not be concerned about your dog being overly friendly. They are thoughtful and intuitive. They will know when things are not right and they will put their family first before their welfare.
You have done a great job!
Julie
I don’t ‘check in’ here as often as I should; I had to go back a bit to see the pictures of one very beautiful and, obviously, well-loved GSD, Jager. Thank you for the kind comments on Buck (sorry,…it seems we broke with the “J” trend). Buck is my first GSD, too. I acquired him by default from my eldest son; I love him dearly. I now know I will never live without a GSD and can’t imagine ever living without Buck.
