Jake’s “stick pile” or should I say “branch pile.”
Max has cleaned up the neighborhood! Many a morning we’ve had to walk down the middle of the street because the sidewalk isn’t roomy enough for his prize. It really cracks observers up. Many folks stop their cars to comment. Lately, Jake has been disappointed on our walks because he can’t find any worthy branches to bring home. I believe that Jake thinks that finding and carrying home branches is his job. He takes his vocation very seriously and is very proud of the fine job he does.
To get a sense of scale, this is Max with one of Jake’s sticks
Terri…I’m still laughing. Too funny!
I really need to take a video. He really is so pleased with himself when he’s “working.” Of course I am telling him what an excellent dog he is and what a fabulous job he’s doing! It’s hilarious when he sees another dog that he wants to bark at…he’s reluctant to drop his branch so he makes these strangled noises and starts swinging the branch around…I have to be careful, I’ve gotten a few nice shin bruises!
Hi, Terri,
Your story is so funny – a video would be priceless! Does he put all of his prizes in the pile himself or do you place them there?
Your yard looks beautiful – very dog friendly. Could you send more pix of your yard to help inspire fellow dog owners?
Hi Margot.
Actually, Jake carefully places his branch in front of the gate (on a few occasions he has left his branch as a gift on his girlfriend Ski’s doorstep. She is a white shepherd that lives across the street. Not sure what Ski’s owner thinks of the branches that sometimes block her door!).
Thank you for the compliment on my yard! It was created to accommodate my dogs. We had a few landscape architects give us suggestions…they ALL came up with “kennel.” That was not at all what we had in mind. So we came up with pea gravel (Julie says it’s good for the dogs feet) and fieldstone and big pots. It’s worked out great, though it is very grey this time of year!
I’ve sent some photos to Julie that we took last summer. I will rely on her to post them.
