I signed Steve up for an Intro to herding class. It is a four session class that started last Saturday. Prior to this last week, I had only seen video and pictures of Steve herding. Man, was it cool to experience in person.
This being my first time I do have stuff to learn, like keeping him 10ft or so away from the sheep. He didn’t get right up next to them but really wanted to get closer than the 10ft 🙂
Steve did very well staying in a down and waiting his turn while the other dogs went. He responded very well to the “stop” command but we are supposed to continue practicing it this week. Here are some photos posted by his trainer (and a couple from my phone at the end). This is the first time they have offered sheep herding. I am very lucky because if not for this the next closest place is a six hour drive.
Love the pictures. Thanks for sharing :). Steve you are one handsome boy!
SO much fun! Steve is beautiful. You are lucky to have a herding opportunity so close. Ours is only 3 hours away, but still, an all-day affair. Worth it, though…
I will have to look into where we can go after we get our pup. Never though about trying that later down the road but it would be a big help after we get more goats for our daughter’s 4-H project. 😉
Look for Ziva and Libby’s video on duck herding too. Where do you live?
I have seen them and also sent them to a couple people in my herding group!! I live in Spokane, Washington.
Julie,
What fun for you and Steve! Nice to see the pictures. Keep us posted on how the classes go. We have enjoyed watching Steve grow up through all your posts.
Julie K, you win the gold star for keeping us updated on your pup. Thank you so much for all you do with Steve and for sharing your adventures with us. You guys will do great with herding.
