Roman has had a super busy week. Last Sat we had an obedience and rally trial. Rally advanced, didn’t go so well. We got into the ring, he sat, I told him “Fuss” and he immediately bolted around the ring and ran out. Ugh. His next rally leg was perfect. I lost a few points for missing a “halt, but Roman nailed everything and took 2nd. If I wouldn’t have missed the halt, he would have beaten that darn poodle. His novice obedience went really great, too. All errors were on my part. One day I’ll learn my left from my right. We then went to Hocking Hills for a long weekend of hiking. I’ll post pics later. Then, upon our return home, I picked up 8 chicks. This is my first venture into chickens. They’re for eggs only 🙂 Roman doesn’t seem to mind them. He sticks his big nose into the brooder, snorts, then backs up. They’re so darn cute! If anyone has any chicken advice, I’d love to hear it 🙂

Congratulations on your first trial! Just walking in the ring the first time is a major accomplishment. OH Roman, Roman, did the zoomies. I always find that so funny…when it is someone else’s dog doing it!

You did great Rita! Every time you will get better and make less mistakes.

I want chickens too! Nothing like fresh eggs. there are all kinds of super forums and stuff on raising urban chickens etc.

Rita,
Wear a long sleeve shirt so you can write an R and a L on your wrists. How ’bout this for shoe…..paint plain sneakers with Rs and Ls? Wonder if that is legal? I know that remembering that your dog is usually on your LEFT side sometimes is not enough to remind you! LOL

Have you been practicing Send-Outs? Maybe that’s what he was thinking when you said “fuss”? Do you find him at your vehicle doing a hold and bark? Sorry couldn’t resist! Just like Julie said, you’ll get better with each attempt.

Chicks? I raised them for food for me and for the dogs. They loved the feet! I think DuKe would want to play with the chicks, a bit too roughly. 🙁

Enjoy,
DuKes’ Ma, Terri

One thing you’ve got to love about our A-T dogs—their sense of humor. Roman probably felt your ring stress and thought you needed some comic relief. Now that you’ve broken the ice, it will be smooth sailing. Right, Roman? 😉 Congratulations, you guys did great!

Rita, if all else fails just run some cheese through your hair. The judge will be so focused on the cheese that he/she won’t notice the “other” left. Just ask Julie—it works for her.

Congratulations Rita and Roman.

Have fun with the baby chickens. When they are a little older Roman can practice herding with them.

Glad I am not the only one w/left vs right issues. Maybe you could mark Roman’;s ears!!! Congratulations on your placements. As someone who is new to showing also, the nerves do make you brain do funny things.

As far as the chickens go;
1. When you wake up in the morning, you will find them scratching on the lawn of the neighbor who is anal about how their lawn looks
2. You don’t think they can fly, but they can
3. You hope whoever sexed the chickens knew what they were doing and you really do have all females. If not let us know when the B-B-Q takes place 🙂
