I hope this finds the Alta-Tollhaus family well in all regards.
I am currently working at Vohne Liche Kennels as a trainer. I have been spending a lot of time on the road and at the National Training Center in California. I’m working with dogs everyday, which is really a dream come true. My current dog, Marshall, is the little black lab that I got to know in Afghanistan. He’s in episode 18. They keep me very busy, so I don’t have much time for discretionary activities. I plan on getting back to writing early next year, as I will be going back to Afghanistan. I should have plenty of time available to finish the Fama stories. I have done some re-writes and written a completely new first chapter. I’ll post the edited version when it’s complete up to where we left off in the spring.
I get to see Fama regularly when I’m at the kennels. Our faces light up every time we see each other. She will hopefully be going back to Afghanistan soon with her next handler. They are having trouble pairing her up with a handler though, so it remains to be seen if someone who can handle her will come to school. It’s not easy to prove your worth in her eyes, but once you do, you’ve got a great partner on your hands.
Best wishes and sloppy doggy kisses,
David
Here’s a pic of Marshall:
well I’m tickled to death to see a post from you again! I miss the Fama stories. I hope you are able to resume them soon. Stay safe.
Hi, David–thank you very much for the update! I’ve been wondering how things have been going for you and for Fama. I, too, miss the Fama stories, and look forward to re-reading them and the re-written first chapter.
How does Fama seem when she sees you? Dogs are amazing, and have amazing memories; I’m always curious about what dogs think when they see someone they haven’t seen recently.
She gets all puppy 🙂 She definitely remembers me. The last time I went into her kennel, she jumped up in my arms and kissed me all over my face while I hugged her to me.
Thank you for the update. I had asked Julie about you and we figured that you were busy. Look forward to more of your adventures. We miss you! God bless you, David. Stay safe.
