Batman likes the 12″ thick bully sticks (pictured below). I prefer the odor-free ones. They last about an hour if he’s really dedicated to chewing. When Batty was teething (4-5 months old), they lasted for 3-4 hours and saved my ankles! We’ve tried the braided version and they’re nice, but not worth the extra money.
He’s also crazy for the trachea tubes, but be forewarned, they reek! They also don’t last as long as the bully sticks, maybe 15-20 minutes for Batman at 10 months old. These are good for distracting him while I file his nails or clean his ears.
Another great product is the knuckle bone. These take Batty a few hours to chew all the meat off of, and then he will randomly scrape the knuckle down for a few more days. I throw them away if they get too small, or within a week or two after opening.
Thanks Jennie! I have been wondering where the best place to order these was. I got a few from PetsMart for Brody, and they were very expensive there. He sure loves them though. I will have to try the knuckle bones too.
you’re welcome! You can try the standard width bully sticks for Brody. Since he is young, they should last him at least a couple of hours. Batman is too big for the standard size sticks now. We had to move up to thick and jumbo widths.
Brody will love the knuckles. Make sure to take it away after 30 min for the first few times, if he isn’t used to chewing smoked bones. Sometimes it takes a little time for them to get used to eating them, so it’s good to play it safe and acclimate them to chewing bones for limited amounts of time.
Costco sells them too if you have one near you, I think there’s 12 in a pack for 24 bucks.
Koda doesn’t get bully sticks anymore, fresh knuckle bone only and given probably a couple of times a month. I heard about their teeth wearing down if given a lot of stuff to chew on.
hmm, maybe I shouldn’t let him gnaw on the knuckle bone after the meat’s all gone. Sigh. He just loves chewing things.
Like Jenny & Batman, U-Rock, Lindy, and I love Best Bully Sticks.
I try to buy the economy bags anytime they have them on sale. The Bully Sticks bag is a winner for us (http://www.bestbullysticks.com/home/bbs/page_15918) even if the sticks are somewhat small.
The trachea bag is also a great find for both dogs (http://www.bestbullysticks.com/home/bbs/page_17759).
And, if you buy an item from them, you end up receiving coupons and discounts every Mon-Wed-Fri via email.
Thanks Jennie for pointing me to this online vendor way back when…
Thanks for sharing this information. I really like your blog post very much.
