Easter Sunday was a gorgeous day here in Michigan, so we packed up and headed out for a hike at Kensington Park. Roman decided to get his herding game on and work the swans for a bit. Funny thing was, he didn’t bark once and while he was swimming around, more and more swans came over to find out what in the world was going on.
That looks like fun! Rita, I live very close to Kensington and get a season pass for the park every year. Is this a specific location where you are allowed to let your dog swim or is this an out of the way spot?
Not sure if dogs are really “allowed” to swim there, but no one was around. If you drive to the back of the park…this area is just past the ice cream stand and boat rental near a cross country ski trail.
Thanks Rita! I’ll see if I can find it later on this summer with my new pup!
It looks like the Swans are herding Roman! He looks like he is having fun out there.
Great photo’s Rita. You have to be careful around swans, when I had Golden’s we did field training on a friend’s lake, The swans had been known to surround a dog and force them out into deep water in attempt to drown what they perceive as a threat/predator.
I think I will be sure there are no swans around when I take my pup out there!
There is an airport or golf course in need of a good bird dog somewhere:) Great shots and you got your directions correct. Singer likes birds also, that’s why we have not let him herd ducks yet.
Duck, my favorite! Singer has good taste.
Our neighbor “hired” Roman to keep the geese out of his pond. He works cheap. He hasn’t been herding ducks for training…only sheep. I think he likes duck a little too much, if you know what I mean 😉
Be careful around the Swans if they are nesting, they can be downright nasty aggressive. I’ve had my share of battles with them in my canoe.
It was funny, though, last weekend I was paddling with a friend that has a canoe painted like a Holstein cow, and the swans fled from it. They wouldn’t even let us get close.
Ekko and Kirsch prefer wild turkey, but they just can’t seem to catch them.
Oh I want to see a picture of the cow- canoe!
Oh Roman, you are a riot! Love that big guy.
Koda has so far has killed our resident pigeon, it had no chance. Koda’s prey drive is crazy.
I am very impressed that Roman had sense enough not to bother the swans. Good boy, Roman!
Maybe that is why he wasn’t barking?
I really think he felt he had a job to do and get the swans together…our neighbors in Cleveland have 5 goats and when I take Roman to visit them, he has a fit if they’re not together and near the barn.
Wow, what a lot of swans.
