The Health Benefits Of Coconut Oil

Although supplements can be a confusing topic for many pet owners, most dog owners have heard of the benefits of feeding fish oils. There are however, a variety of oils that you can also use to your dog’s benefit, each with different actions and benefits.
Coconut oil consists of more than 90% saturated fats, with traces of few unsaturated fatty acids, such as monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Most of the saturated fats in coconut oil are Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs). The main component (more than 40%) of MCTs is lauric acid, followed by capric acid, caprylic acid, myristic acid and palmitic. Coconut oil also contains about 2% linoleic acid (polyunsaturated fatty acids) and about 6% oleic acid (monounsaturated fatty acids).

from reading the article it sounds like I need coconut oil! Once again thank you Karen!
You are welcome!
It’s a little pricey to feed large dogs but the benefits surely out-weigh the cost! 🙂
You’re going to think I’m lying, but I’m actually eating a fresh young coconut right now! I get them from Whole Foods or the Asian market. I crack the top off with a big chef’s knife, drink the water, then scoop out the flesh. Sometimes I share a little coconut water with Batman when I’m rehydrating his Honest Kitchen. It is possibly the most delicious drink in the world (besides margaritas). It has more electrolytes than any sports drink, is low in sugar, and is great for your skin. It feels like you’re drinking from the fountain of youth!
I gave Batty half a spoonful of coconut oil with his breakfast this morning, and took the rest myself. I also use it as an emollient on my hands and lips to protect them from the winter cold.
This sounds wonderful Jen, can we get a truckload I will fill my pool and go for a swim. I need all the help I can get!! LOL
Jennie, tell the truth. What you really mean is that you dumped coconut water into your margarita. It’s OK. We’ll understand.
Karen, we don’t call you our Mighty Guru for nothing!
You ROCK!!!
Perfect idea Carole, now I can be a young, HAPPY GSD owner. It’ don’t get any better than that.
@JK
what do you do with the flesh? Do you eat it raw?
