I haven’t made these in a while but all my dogs like them and in a pinch they are good for humans as well. I developed this recipe as a treat for Angel to help with all her many health problems. I would bring them to training and put them out for the dogs and many a handler ate their share. All the dogs loved them. A bit of work but very healthy.

I called them Power Bites because they are a doggie version of an energy bar.

Ingredients:
5 cups quick rolled oats (oats are a great brain food and have a calming effect on the nervous system)
1 T bone meal (available at health food stores – a great source of calcium, phosphorus and other trace minerals)
1 t brewers yeast (rich in B-complex vitamins – some dogs may be sensitive to brewer’s yeast and it doesn’t hurt the recipe to leave this out)
4 T ground cinnamon (aids in digestion)
1 cup oat bran flour (can be expensive and if you prefer just grind some oatmeal in your food processor, works just as well)
1/2 cup ground raw unsalted peanuts or you can substitute organic peanut butter-no salt or sugar. (great source of thiamine, niacin, magnesium & potassium)
2 cups raw carrots grated – can do in food processor (vatamin A & potassium)
1/2 cup raw, hulled unsalted sunflower seeds (rich in protein and fat)
1 t grated ginger (excellent for digestion and circulation)
4 egg yolks (packed with good things-one of nature’s most perfect foods)
3/4 cup cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
3/4 cup unsulphured blackstrap molasses (great source of many needed minerals)
1/2 cup raw honey (great tonic for stress)
1/2 cup brewed chamomille tea (soothing for digestion and nerves – you can substitute water if you prefer)

Mix your dry ingredients (rolled oats, oat bran flour, bone meal, brewer’s yeast, cinnamon) together in a large bowl. Add peanuts, carrots, sunflower seeds and ginger and mix together. then add egg yolks, olive oil, molasses, honey, water and mix together. Add the chamomille tea and mix again. (I use a kitchen aide mixer but you can mix by hand). Lightly oil a melon baller and drop on a lightly oiled or non stick cookie sheet. You can place close together, they will not raise or grow.  Size depends on your melon baller.  Makes about 100 1″ balls.
Bake for 15 minutes at 300 degrees. Store in a cool dry place for a few days or keep in your refrigerator. They also freeze well.

WARNING: These smell great when baking.

They are a little bland as far as people cookies but they tasted pretty good when training went late and you missed lunch…
