Dog food brands that source some ingredients from China:
Since the FDA would not name brands, the two that I found that were titled “Chicken Jerky” was “DogsWell” “Happy Hips” (definitely sourced and manufactured in China) & “Waggin Train” (do not know origin) so I think I would steer clear of these.

Karen, this stuff is very scary. I know that you and I have had multiple email “conversations” on this – but I just want you to know that I appreciate all you do to help educate dog owners on these issues.
You are very welcome! 🙂
90% of average pet owner’s really just don’t know! They see beautiful whole chicken’s, fruits and vegetable’s and grains floating from the sky into an attractive bag and think that is what they are getting, but unfortunately, in the pet food world, that is usually not the case.
Thank you Karen, it is awesome that you take the time and effort to keep us educated on this.
I have to say that my feelings on companies who will not release their sources for products, don’t need my business.
Thanks again for everything you do for us.
Is there any way to find out where our glucosamine comes from? or our vitamins? Some reports have indicated that we don’t make these things here any more.
Hey Anne!
From looking into dog food for so many years, I found that companies can claim it’s from the USA because they purchase items from a US company. But the US company that they purchase their items from could have purchased it from overseas.
I hadn’t looked into Glucosamine supplement sources before but after a quick check, here is what I found out from this company. So some things are the same with human items as with pets items but they have more checks and balances in place for us.
NutraSense Glucosamine HCL Plus Chondroitin Sulfate

“Is all Glucosamine the same? No. If glucosamine is not properly prepared it may not have any effect. The Glucosamine in our NutraSense product is Regenasure® by Cargill Inc. Cargill is the only lab that makes Glucosamine in the USA. Other companies will say that they “produce Glucosamine in the USA.” What this often means is that they buy Glucosamine from Asia and then “clean it up” in labs in the USA. This is not the same as producing Glucosamine from raw materials. It costs a little more but it is much more effective than some other brands.”
Thank you!
I checked my glucosamine bottle, and I have no idea where the stuff came from. All it says on the container is the name of the distributor. And that is very sad about the Waggin Train chicken, since everybody loves it. There too the big letters say “An American Owned Company.” A person would think that this information should be public record.
It completely BOGGLES my mind that there are chicken jerky products out there on the shelves for the unsuspecting pet parent to buy that could possibly KILL your pet or damage their organs and the FDA is not naming names!
There is a good people product that I give to the dog’s and we also take it. It’s called “ChondroSamine” which is a Glucosamine/Chodrotin/MSM combo. They say that the combination of these 3 are the best way to take. It’s by Biotics Research. This is a “professional product” that can now be purchased on the internet at http://search.covenanthealthproducts.com/b/q?k=biotics+chondrosamine+plus&sn=161540877 $36 for 90 caps. I know that this company has all of their checks and balances in place to produce a quality product. Hope this helps! 🙂
You’d think the FDA would provide the brand names after the 2007 contamination that killed thousands of pets. But you’d be wrong.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Karen.
OK…….call me obsessive, but, I went to K-Mart to get some little toys for my Grandkids that are coming tomorrow and as I was walking thru the store, the pet isle was calling to me! 🙂
SO….here is a new update. The Waggin Train Chicken Treats ARE manufactured in China, AND so is Hartz & Milo’s Kitchen! It says it right on the bag! WHY WHY WHY is the FDA covering up for these big companies and our animals are paying the price???? PLEASE sign, tweet, facebook and email all who will listen….. “WE THE PET PEOPLE” petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/we-the-pet-people and let the government know we want better standards for our pets!
Somehow I missed this post. The numbers of sick dogs will surely multiply. As the others have said, “Thank you.” We are the serious dog owners – the poor pet owners have yet to figure this out. Oh Jeez.
