“Iams® Nutritious Dog Food to Help Keep Man’s Best Friend Healthy!”

Let’s review, shall we Grasshopper?

Iams® Biscuits

Wheat Flour – Poorly digested filler, can cause allergies and bowel problems.

Chicken By-Product Meal – Chicken by-products are much less expensive and less digestible than the chicken muscle meat. The ingredients of each batch can vary drastically in ingredients (heads, feet, bones etc.) as well as quality, thus the nutritional value is also not consistent. Don’t forget that by-products consist of any parts of the animal OTHER than meat including infectous lungs.  Rendered  Indicates poor quality diet, can contain rancid, diseased part, tumors, etc. Diseased internal organs.

Dried Beet Pulp (sugar removed), Waste product. Cheapest, most common filler used, still contains enough sugar residue to cause problems such as hyperactivity and blood sugar imbalances. Causes sugar rush/addiction (REALLY?) to food, and allergies. .  It is hard on the digestive system & can lead to diabetes.

Natural Chicken Flavor – Natural and Artificial flavors can cause severe illness, become carcinogenic. Chicken flavors indicates artificial flavor which can be a carcinogen. A common name for MSG is “natural flavors.” Variations are natural flavor, natural flavorings, natural beef flavor, natural chicken flavor, malt flavoring, chicken flavoring, seasoning, spices, enzymes and simply “flavoring.”

Brewer’s Dried Yeast – Waste product (used for flavoring, protein, B-vitamins) which can become very toxic to the liver causes allergies and arthritis. Waste product of beer and ale industry.

And last but not least>>>>>>>>ta-ta-ta-da!!!!! Copper Sulfate –

Application sites:  Primary use is to control algae growths in impounded waters, lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and irrigation and irrigation drainage conveyance systems.  Other sites include foliar

applications for control of foliar pathogens on fruit, nut, vegetable, and field crops, ornamentals, and agricultural and home garden uses.

Copper sulfate is also registered for use as a weed seed treatment, for treatment of tree wounds, for control of fungi and fungal/bacterial slimes occurring in wood, and in water systems, including

sewer pumps and force mains, pulp and paper mills, cooling towers and spray ponds. We purchase this from our chemical supplier for our lawn care business and put it in our pond when it  gets SCUM algae on it!

And to think that some would feed this to their dogs! God help us all.

It’s like us humans and our junk food, the dogs love these biscuits.

Karen has been working with me steadily for the past two weeks (maybe three). I’ve recently had a problem with Nature’s Variety. I still don’t know if it was the food itself or how it was housed by the distribution center. Karen is the guru when it comes to dog food.

I have tons of info that I’ll share once I get it all together. The other night, I happened to mention my dogs’ addiction to Iams biscuits. It is puppy crack!! Karen’s response to me had me rolling on the floor!

Thank you, Julie for posting Karen’s recipes and comments. Most importantly, THANK YOU, Karen for so graciously sharing all of your hard research.

You are very welcome!
My desire is to advocate and promote “clean food” (human & natural ingredients) for our pets to allow them the best chance at a healthy life! It’s my pleasure to help anyone interested!

Please let us know when you find out what caused the problem with Nature’s Variety. A lot of us use it. For the moment I am grateful the store was out of it last time and I had to substitute a bag of Wilderness.

@Carole
I tried to switch Libby to NV rabbit and she had really runny, nasty smelling stools. I thought that maybe it was the fat content, so I transitioned her her back to solid gold sundancer and things cleared up.
