Here’s a link to a little video of Isa with one of our cats. Who says dogs and cats can’t get along?
Isa has a very specific relationship with each of our three cats: the video shows how she and Qwiddy interact (well, when they are calm, at least–they also have a riot playing. I will have to video that sometime). With our two-year-old black long-haired cat, who is very skittish all-around, Isa is very gentle, and never “rushes” her. If I have Isa lie down, sometimes this cat will actually not run away–Isa has licked Chica’s ear very gently and respectfully. On the other hand, our 12-year-old Tiger cat, Fooey, gets in trouble for getting into our food (plates, counters, stoves, etc.) and Isa has taken it upon herself to monitor this cat, correcting him and chasing him away when he gets into trouble. This cat gets into trouble enough that, the other day, we said, “Isa, get the kitty!” and she went looking for this cat to correct, even though it was Qwiddy who needed to be “gotten.” So funny! I think we need a “cats” category on LDT.
Here she is outside, in the sunlight:
And a long coat’s favorite way to stay cool, if she or he is not in a lake: a mud puddle!
What a great pair! Isa is beautiful—Allie/Funny with long hair.
That is very sweet. I love to see things like that. She is gorgeous!!!! Boy if she doesn’t look like Sabree..WOW!Thanks for the pics Jil.
That is so cute and she is so pretty. We lost our last LH last year and the ones we have now are Standard coats and I miss our fluffy GSD!
Rascal begs to differ, poor Odin gets pawed by Rascal all the time. Odin has not learned to respect the cat. lol
I cannot believe how red she is, what a gorgeous girl! 🙂
@josiem Thank you, Josie! ***edited*** comment moved to post
@tawnyhillshepherds Hi! (I’m sorry–I don’t know your first name!) Thank you for your comments. I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your last LH last year. They are so beautiful and special.
Hi Jil,
It is GREAT to see pictures of Isa. She looks beautiful. There is definitely still a family resemblance between her and Ivan…and Allie and Funny and all the AT dogs!
I love the video.
Hope all is well with you.
@Jil
lol! I have a good one- don’t tell Julie- 😉
DH calls me at work all frantic, he was telling me that at first he thought Odin was going be rushed to the Vet, Odin kept chasing my 14 year old cat Rascal, well Rascal had enough and clawed Odin’s leg and hit a vein. Blood everywhere! Dh holds his leg and put pressure on it, he said he can feel blood spurting, it took a while for it to stop. Of course the whole time, Odin is so focused on Rascal- he can’t understand why he doesn’t want to play!
They are getting better together, Odin is learning the respect the cat. What’s funny is that whenever I put Odin on time out (in his crate) Rascal ALWAYS taunts him- he does his loong stretch, rolls over etc ha ha!
Your wish is granted, I added a “Cat” category called “Cats that Own Dogs”
I loved reading about how Isa interacts with each of the cats, she has found her niche as a cat herder and guardian…and that video that is so sweet. I have watched it over and over again. Do you trim Via’s hair? She barely looks like a long coat.
Julie
Love the video. Everyone seems very happy. My cats and dogs have always been buds, although the relationship is easier to start when they are young.
@Julie As I have not visited Minnesota recently, I have not trimmed Via’s hair. heeheeee! I know you meant Isa–just kidding. 🙂 I trimmed Isa once so far, 5 or 6 weeks ago, and it was ear fluff and just a little out-of-control mane. I know what you mean–I see pics of some long coats (like that beautiful male in your German training club post recently) and they are super furry. I like both.
@josiem Oh my gosh! Your poor husband–he must have been freaking out! I can imagine the scene, thanks to your description of it! And don’t worry . . . I won’t mention it to Julie. 🙂 Although, I’m quite sure Julie has many stories of her own!
