I have the SV reports back on Alta-Tollhaus Gavin (X Box dei Precision x Faye vom Kirschental), Alta-Tollhaus Havana, and Alta-Tollhaus Heike (Zamp Vom Thermodos x Maikali vom Kirschental) all three are A-Normal Elbows and A-Normal Hips. YEAH!!!
Alta-Tollhaus Halley has her radiographs done and are ready to send to the GSDCA-WDA after the office is relocated in April. The radiographs are sent to the GSDCA-WDA and they send them to the SV. Halley’s xrays also look good.
I just went to see if the Zuchtwert numbers were up for Gavin, Havana, and Heike and found some surprises. The biggest is Brady – Alta-Tollhaus Epic ZW number has been lowered to 68!!! Congratulations Michelle! When I am shopping for stud dogs it is very hard to find a dog with a ZW number in the 80’s or lower, many are in the 90’s or higher. Another pleasant surprise is Maikali’s ZW number is now at 71.

Educamate me, the higher the number the better? Is there a goal or target number here?
The lower the number, the better. A puppy starts out as the average of his parents. I guess 100 would be the overall average, but most people want something below 90, and below 80 is great. The nice thing about the ZW is that unlike the a-stamps or OFAs which are just a rating based on a single film for a single dog, it takes into account related dogs and how they are rated. I believe the ZWs are updated quarterly, so they are frequently changing. A dog that is not entered has the average of its parents. Once its a-stamps are submitted, it will go into the database and have a number that reflects the parents and progeny.
Like golf, the lower the number the better. You should not do a breeding were the sum of the sire and the dam’s Zuchwert numbers are greater then 200.
For those of you who aren’t sure about the ZW ratings—take another look at the ratings and then read Julie’s comment again:
