Blue-winged Teal

A duck is a duck, right? Not hardly. There are so many varieties—most I can’t identify without a book. These little beauties caught my eye. When I got home, I looked them up and found that they are Blue-winged Teals. Odd name for a duck that is shades of brown with a steel gray head.

I startled two that were very close to the water’s edge. Now I know why this duck is called Blue-winged Teal.

I couldn’t see the color on its wings until I viewed my photos!
