I have to admit that I let Via play with the bowl for a while between training games. Then I traded her the bowl for a treat a couple of time. Then we played toss and return the bowl several times with Via coming to a sit to ask me to toss the bowl again.
Must be a shepherd thing. Mine would slap the edge w/her paw, spill whatever was in it and fling the bowl around for a while. If she spilled the water then she rolled in it, if it was her kibble then she batted them around, chased it like a cat, caught it and ate it. Dinner time got less messy by the time she was 1. Had to trade the plastic bowls for stainless early on since she was such a vigorous chewer. They are cute when they amuse themselves like that.
a glimpse of my future…. I’m glad I have a lot of dog towels… lol! I wonder if I should invest in spill proof water bowl? Does anybody know where I can get a stainless steel one?
Spill proof-ha. Had one, she still managed to fling it around and dump it. My husband suggested super gluing it to the floor! I ended up w/a flat backed water pail and holder attached to my wall (like they have for horses). Food dish ended up being held by mom if there was no time for the search and destroy kibble game.
Josie, use only stainless steel for your dog’s food and water dishes. The bowl and buckets are easy to find online. The buckets I like the handles that are designed so collars can not accidentally become snagged where the handle attaches to the bucket. like this one:
I already have the stainless steel for food and water, washed and ready to go in fact! 🙂
But I was thinking of getting something like the buddy bowl in stainless steel as well for whenever we go out and also can stay in the kitchen.

Via says that life with that crazy dog trainer woman is all just fun and games.
That is fun to watch, how long do you think she would entertain herself like this?
If you wanted her to get more active buy one of these:

Those are the favorites of Richard and Brenda’s dogs…which reminds me I was suppose to order them some new ones.
I don’t know how long she would play alone.
I generally interrupt after about 5 minutes and do a bit of training and or give her something different to play with.
She has the Jolly ball on the rope. I hurts the human a lot when she flings it into your shins.
I’ll get her one with a handle.
She also have a 6 pound bowling ball with a handle that she inherited from Blue that she loves to toss around. That one stays in the yard.
She seems to enjoy metal bowls best of all.

I have video on my blog where I am using the bowl to work on sit as a default behavior, a play retrieve and well as give me that.

I love her tuck sit!
