On the way to our hike this morning we stopped by the vet clinic just to walk Nuke onto the scale. Would you believe he’s now SEVENTY POUNDS??? Of course, as expensive as his diet is (Nature’s Variety Raw/Wellness Core kibble), it’s no wonder he’s growing. 🙂 He’ll be seven months old next week.
John went hiking with us today so we had EXTRA fun! Unbelievably, we reached 51 degrees today. Snow was turning into slush and we didn’t even need jackets for the hike. I am tired of being stuck in the house due to the cold and ready to go CAMPING so I am happy to see it warming up.
There was still plenty of snow for throwing snowballs though. 🙂
So we’re walking along and here comes a pretty little female shepherd, and the woman with her says “is that NUKE???” Turns out she’s the wife of one of my co-workers (I’d never met her before) and knew Nuke from his pics on the internet. 🙂 Their shepherd’s name is Kima.
They got along great. 🙂
When we started the hike, John buried a can of Coke in the snow near the trailhead so it would be cold on the return trip. As we approached, we played a game of “find it!” After being pointed in the right direction, Nuke did indeed locate the buried can, dug it up, and retrieved it. 🙂
We are such bad parents. 🙂
I love that backpack! Cool pics! Nuke is handsome boy!
Josie, Nuke has his own backpack too. I will find the link.
Here it is, it’s called a Poo Boss:

Yeah, we forgot it today. John is wearing one by Kifaru.
Another great picture-book story. Every time I decide I am going to pack up and move to Cape Cod you come along and post these gorgeous photos….
Great photos, Nuke catching the snowball is fantastic, the timing could not be any better. I also like John and Nuke snuggling.
We need to win the lottery so we can all visit each other in the different and wonderful parts of the country.
I’m with you Lynda, and we could choose the most opportune time of year for each!
Gorgeous dogs, gorgeous scenery, gorgeous weather, you can”t ask for much more than that! I also love the snuggle picture, but what a fun picture the second one is…it looks like Nuke has his own pogo stick.
Kifaru, I’ve never heard of that brand until today! That backpack would have been a perfect diaper bag, ha ha!
Gorgeous photos—that snowball pitch is perfect!
Absolutely fantastic photos. I love the scenery. It is so beautiful.
Famous Nuke looks great.
I was wondering why John is carrying a pistol?
We both carry guns everywhere. But specifically in Blue Mountain, it’s an off leash area and sometimes dogs run off and pack up. I’ve been surprised/scared by a few when I used to hike up there before I got Nuke. You also never know when you’ll be confronted by a transient or some form of unhappy wildlife, since this place is on the outskirts of town. I was carrying one too, I’m just never in pictures. :p
This gives new meaning to the wild-west. Out hiking are most of the other people you see, are they also carrying? If they were concealed that would be illegal? But because they are visible it is legal? I have never seen anyone walk around with a pistol other then Law Enforcement officers. The laws probably vary by State?
I think it gives old meaning to the wild-west! Nuke should be allowed to carry his own gun too. His Poop Sack could have a little side holster on it.
Carole says: “I think it gives old meaning to the wild-west!”
Touche Carole!
Some people carry concealed (like me) so you’d never know. I have definitely met others on trails who were carrying openly.
You don’t even need a license to carry concealed in rural Montana. We’re a very gun friendly state. And yes, laws are VERY different state to state. 🙂 Here it’s like carrying a cell phoen.
