I am on a staycation so I’m not doing much aside from playing with Nuke, playing in the snow, and playing video games. Nuke has been feeling a little under the weather and now we know the reason…
He is teething like crazy! I keep finding his teeth all over the house. One of those I found while swiffering the living room. The other was embedded in one of my socks in the dirty laundry. I’m glad this is temporary because we are *all* suffering!
Since Julie likes my food pictures, here’s some of the bacon-wrapped dates I made today for a ladies’ night party I’m attending with some co-workers:
I was forced to eat a few that came unwrapped in the cooking process. My life is so hard. 🙂 They’re really easy – just cut a medjool date in half, remove the pit, smoosh some chevre in the middle, then wrap the date with bacon. Broil on low about 4″ from the broiler for about 3 minutes on each side and voila! I use toothpicks to keep them from unravelling. You can get really fancy and drizzle a balsamic vinegar reduction on them if you like. Mine never last long enough to be drizzled. 🙂
Nuke’s nose is clearly working because he went WILD when I cracked open the bacon package. There was whining and carrying on like you would not believe. Then when he figured out that wasn’t going to work, he decided to be the Best Dog Ever and cycled through sit, down, stand, stay, and every other thing he could think of. When that didn’t work, he flopped down and gave me Big Puppy Eyes…
…then made Big Puppy Eyes at the stove in hopes a bacon-wrapped date would magically fall out of the oven and into his mouth.
Here’s two more pictures of the Sad Dog for good measure:
I ended up taking one piece of kibble and dipping it in bacon grease, then tossing it into an everlasting fun ball with a big handful of plain kibble. He played with that thing for a goof half-hour! And now I know what to use when we do scent-work – LOL!
You never fail to make me laugh and I LOVE all your pictures! I am happy to hear that the entire family is showing empathy for the teething creature. The bacon-wrapped figs reminds me of a recipe I have somewhere for figs stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon. I think perhaps a taste-off might be in order, whaddya think?
That was a very clever idea to just soak one kibble and adding a bunch of plain into a fun-ball, very smart.
I like that he is operant dog (offers behaviors) I think that is an indication of good training.
If I can find figs I will give it a try! I can usually only get them here for about a month out of the year. That’s when I make huge batches of fig jam!
I will find the recipe.
Great story and pictures! Love the sad eyes.
He really is growing.
Oh, that face! How could you resist?
This post made me laugh out loud! Poor Nuke. And what yummy-looking appetizers. We made dates with goat cheese for Christmas, but did not wrap them with bacon (I’m a vegetarian). I’m guessing my husband would prefer your version!
