From Del and Jean, any ideas and suggestions would be welcomed!

Part two in our water saga!  Because Del and I believe that every animal should have availability to their water 24-7 our comedy continues.  Del was thinking that if we got Gryph one of those automatic water containers that the dish that the water flows into would be small enough that Gryph might not be able to put his rather large foot in it and splash the water.  Well, I had no doubt that Gryphon would figure out something soooo.  We brought the container home, Del put it about three-quarters full (it holds 10.4 liters), he set the container on the floor, Gryph walked over to it (like the gentleman he is!!!!), took a nice drink and it looked like everything was going rather smoothly until the darn thing made a glubing air bubble noise and then the war was on.  Before he finished and we could get control of ourselves and our laughter the water container was almost empty.  Gryph was helpful, he did get his drink from the small lake on the floor.  And now I apologize to you, you must think we are helping this wonderful pup learn absolutely nothing.  He is very smart, walks like such a good boy on his leash, sits well, working on learning to lay (that just seems kind of stupid to him), brings his ball back (most of the time, unless a cat runs in front of him) goes everywhere with us and charms everyone.  So far I have given your web site address to several people who absolutely loved him.  One man asked if he could buy Gryph from me and I simply said NO.  Del said I could have been a little more gentle with my answer.  Well, as you can tell-we simply love this guy.  Now, for my question, do you have any ideas on providing water in the house for our Gryphon without necessitating the need to purchase flood insurance?

I am back to using my old Buddy Bowl. So far Raj has not managed to get a foot in it. I have to add water frequently, but the floor has suffered primarily from Mac, who loves to grab a drink while moving so some of the water can fall out on his way to wherever.

I’ve put the bowls at home in the walk in shower stall. I’ve switched the bowls in my training building to buddy spill-proof bowls

Use a large bowl with a very large rock that he has to work around sort of to drink. Just not enough room to get his paw all the way to the bottom to stand in it, if that makes any sense.
But I have to thank you, I needed a good laugh today!
One other option is to get a bucket and clip it to the side of the kennel. Julie can help with how or where to get these, I got mine through her.
Enjoy the shanagans these guys pull, they keep us all laughing and that keeps us young!

With my water dogs, the water is in a stainless-steel bucket that is snapped inside their crate.

We’ve been there and wrote the book with Lily. Like Carole we went on line and ordered stainless steel buckets that attach to Lily’s crate. We also put a towel under it for the “slobber”… This works great. If she does make a mess it stays in the crate. Make sure you attach the bucket to the back of the crate as far as you can…then when they slobber it will go on the towel underneath it. Hang in there! It’s soo worth it! Alta Tollhouse Dogs are the BEST!

Jean, I was ready to try one of those automatic watering things too. Thank you for sparing me the expense! And for a good laugh. I am glad you are enjoying your Gryph as much as Greg and I are enjoying our Eva. I guess I will just continue with the towels I’ve been using. I miss you guys. Hopefully, we’ll run into you and Mr. Gryph one of these days. Happy Holidays

Carla, I have the automatic water bowl with the 2 gallon or how ever big it is, and I don’t have any trouble, with it. The newness has wore off.

I was kind of hoping that Charlene would jump in on this one. Charlene is an excellent dog trainer and she raised and titled O’stara. Her approach is 100% Charlene and 100% practical. It goes something like this, here is your water what you decide to do with it, is your choice but if you dump it more water will not magically appear. After awhile they learn not to waste it.

This makes perfect sense… Personally I need to start looking for common sense solutions to things, instead of looking for the magic cure so to speak., Thanks for this reminder Julie, I needed that!
