Gryphon’s new and exciting discovery. We bought him a set of stainless dishes that fit down into a stand (thinking this would be a good idea). His new and hopefully short lived fun act is he slides an eye tooth under that little edge of his water dish-lifts the water dish up just far enough so he can get a really good grip with the rest of his mouth-jerks the water dish up and out (which of course, makes the dish flip into the air) splashing his water everywhere. After this is accomplished he slams his front feet into the puddle of water, further splashing it around. Then for the final act, while I am trying to mop the water up, we get to play tug of war with a wet towel around on the still damp floor. This truly is a hard act to follow, but I am sure he will think of something, that is how his devious little mind works. I SURELY DO LOVE THIS GUY!!

Stainless steel is a great idea… in fact it is the only thing you should use for food and water. Did Gryphon think the floors needed washing?
This must run in the family – Nuke has been doing this since we got him! It was cute at first. Breaking him of it has been difficult – I have to stand over him with him on a leash and correct for it. Our kitchen floors are VERY clean now. :p
Yes, it must be genetic. I’ve seen the same thing w/Eva. If she can’t get both of her feet in the large ceramic water bowl, she tries to “throw” the smaller stainless ones. What a hoot. Don’t you LOVE it? I know it might not be funny always….fortunately there are lakes and pools!
Precisely why, for the moment, we are back to the old Buddy Bowl. I knew what would happen with my stainless steel bucket, and decided I would rather have the lake somewhere outdoors, especially in the o’dark hours when I am already running late for work. At that point it would not be funny, and we don’t want to warp the poor baby’s childhood.
Ann, you made me laugh! No—let’s not warp the baby’s childhood! However, it has become obvious to me that these Alta-Tollhaus dogs do not quit playing in the water as they mature. That is why I have stainless steel buckets attached to the inside of the crate. There is less mess than with the old bowl on the floor routine. By the way, apparently outside buckets are for washing feet and dunking heads!
We say our Alta-Tollhaus boy (Ivan) has a “drinking problem”! He used to swim in the water bowl when he was a baby but now that he is bigger he takes a drink and then walks away with water pouring out of his mouth all over the kitchen floor!!
Ah, yes, the water bowls. Pieka enjoys that. Blowing bubbles is fun. As is slapping the water with your paw and making it splash everywhere.
The most fun? Dunking your toys (preferably a ball) in the water and then either bringing it to Mom to fetch or bouncing it all over the floor. If we leave a bowl of water outside while we’re playing fetch, Pieka WILL make frequent detours to keep the ball nice and wet. Which quickly becomes nice and muddy. Sigh.
