Just one babe. A week ago we lost our last Guinea Hen to raccoons as well as all of the eggs that were left in their nest. Mos had been collecting a few eggs almost daily and placing in the incubator he bought for me for mother’s day. Somewhat reminiscent of the new Van he bought me for Christmas that I wasn’t allowed to drive, but that is beside the point. Anyway, on the same day Kayla was having her pups, one of the incubated eggs started to hatch, see for yourself:

Wow Julie, how cool to see it happening in every picture. Over how long of a period of time did the hatching take?
It was funny yesterday, peeping in one corner and puppy sounds in the other room. Loved it.

If you time it right, you could probably hear peeping in one corner and peeing in the other room!

Julie could you work on this for us, and while your at it, we could have puppies being born in the background.

That fourth photo down needs the “O HAI!!!” caption! Those eggs seem to have really thick shells. He did a good job scrambling his way out.

Kayla would LOVE to raise the chick! 😉

Mos was so excited when he came home with Julie’s mother’s day gift. We spent half the day setting it up and getting the temp. just right. I’m glad that his efforts have paid off!

Did Tif help with the delivery? If so, then she is this chick’s momma! Nothing personal—Oh my! What big feet you have!

I am sorry that I missed the birth, but I’m very happy to stick with Kayla’s pups.
You should have more within 2-3 days!

Julie, you said I had a storybook childhood, it seems to me you have the idyllic life right now – dogs, pups, chicks, foxes, deer – maybe you could add a pygmy goat (I’ve always fancied one of them!) . Thanks for sharing all your wonderful photographs!

I think more like along the lines of hillbillies. Half of my front yard looks like a jungle because I have been gone so much I have not had time to do anything with it. The other half is where the guinea hens were living in a make shift tarp and chain link fence panels —very attractive. On our kitchen counter is an incubator, on the kitchen table is a guinea hen chick and in the corner is a centrifuge and over there a microscope. And when I am home the pups are on a blanket an mom is nursing them. Maybe we are worse then hillbillies?

I am surprise P*E*T*A hasn’t declared eggs on there hit list ….there is no room for that chick to turn around let alone stand up. Who designed these things anyways and what do they know? 🙂

Pygmy goats are cute, but what room would I put them in? I have a secret desire to have sheep and play shepherd with my shepherd dogs. Deer are over-sized rodents, they just fool people with their big doe-full eyes.

Julie, for some reason, I don’t think the term “hillbilly” has ever entered anyone’s mind who has pulled into your driveway. 😉

Andrea, I’m with you! I love pygmy goats! The goats would take care of Julie’s weeding problem—not to mention ALL of her pretty flowers!

Yes, the goats will eat all the weeds. When I lived in CA, I had pygmy goats. Was sent out to buy a new weed whacker and came home with three pygmy goats. One was only a few days old—an orphan who I bottle fed. The goats would eat weeds over grass any day. However, they will also eat your flowers!

My goats did not make the trip to FL with me. Since they were CA goats, they did not like it when it rained. Figured that the weather here would have driven them crazy, so the goats moved in with a neighbor.

I can not think of a single person I know other than Carole, that would go out to buy a weed whacker and come back with pygmy goats… LOL
I do have to admit AL sent me for propane for the travel trailer one time and I came back with a brand new travel trailer…it was all his fault!

@Karen

LOL Karen, this is EXACTLY why we hit it off so well! I know from experience that it is much easier to buy a new trailer than to swap out propane tanks. I’m with you all the way, Girl!

Now go borrow Nikon so that he & Sabree can clean up the neighborhood. Either that, or start taking pix of your neighbors with that new camera!
