Prissy might have said, “I don’t know nothin’ ’bout ‘birthin’ babies, Miss Scarlett.” That is not something that Kayla would say. Kayla’s motto is, “Let’s Do It!”
Julie had mention that Kayla was a week late being born and she has never been late with anything since. SchH titles—lickety-split! Birthin’ babies—sure, why not!
Her due date is Wednesday, so it is not uncommon for pups to come on the 60th day. I got back to FL late last night. Have all day Saturday to get things ready. Then early into the project I threw my back out. So I can’t stand up straight. No problem, I still have all day to finish my project…puppies aren’t due until Sunday at the earliest. (I work better under pressure.)
Had the room mostly ready by 4:00 so we both took a nap in bed. Kayla tried out her whelping box and decided that my bed was more comfortable.
“You sleep in that whelping box and I’ll have my puppies in bed!” This was at 7:30.
Here’s the scene by 8:20!
At 7:35, I knew we were having babies tonight.
7:49 – Male
8:10 – Male
Oh yeah—and since I’ve started this:
9:39 – Female
Both the boys are 16 oz; the girl is 20 oz.
Three down and two more X-Box babies to go…
Go Kayla!!! Congratulations Carole the babies are beautiful!!!! I hate missing the “birthin.” Not nearly as exciting, but we have had a little action up here in MI. More to follow.
This is my first German litter. I can’t get over how the babies come out so strong and ready to eat! They are kicking and screaming to get to the milk bar. The little girl already is showing some attitude.
Kayla is an excellent mother! She is being so calm and acting like an old pro. I made sure that the floor was covered. I don’t know why—she is so clean that there is hardly any mess.
Julie, tell Mos that if I had waited one more day to come home, I would have been “littering” on the highway. 🙂
So appropriate to have a Gone With the Wind reference for southern-born pups! I told my husband they were being born right now and he said “so we should hurry over there?” Congrats on the new additions.
More babies .. YEAHHHH!! Glad you made it home, and hope your back feels better.
Keep us posted please!

Stacy, I left the porch light on for you!
