Garth, in response to your question, I’m not certain which species. From looking at photos in my book, I would say that these are either Double-Crested (32″) or Olivaceous (26″) Cormorants. I lean more towards the photo and description of the Double-crested. They are more the size of the Anhinga (35″).
Here are some better photos. Maybe you can help with the id.
The Cormorant and Anhinga are all over the waters of Central Flordia. I’ve never heard anyone complain about the hazards on the fish population and for several years had been obsessed with fishing. (Kayla brought me to my senses!)
Did you ever get a new camera? I miss your photos!
Thanks Carole, it strange how different birds look here compared to Florida. The Double Crested up here is much darker head and neck. It’s got to be that, but I see them every day when I’m paddling in the summer, and they look just like the third photo above, but so much like the ones in your previous post.
I did not get a camera yet, I pulled out my older digital camera and actually have a couple of ok photos of Ekko and Kirsch to post when I get a chance.
