I brought Funny and Allie in to their DVM for a pre-whelping check up. As of today, Allie has gained 20 pounds and Funny 13 pounds.
I am planning on keeping the girls quiet for the next week and staying close to home. The nesting-instinct or my Swedish heritage, or perhaps a combination of the two, is giving me the urge to bake this weekend. Baking will be a good activity for home-bound expectant moms… I am an expecting mom by proxy. Funny and Allie will help by taste testing and clean-up.
I have been researching future stud dogs and plan to do more this weekend. I skipped Kira’s last estrus cycle so she and I could have a good long stretch of time for training uninterrupted by pregnancy. However, Kira has other plans and is giving me signs that she will be short-cycling and coming into season much earlier then she should. Good grief, is she a dog or a cat? Cats, continuously cycle until they get pregnant, dogs do not….
I am also going to give the whelping room a good cleaning and prep it for birth’in puppies. I am very much looking forward to have Christmas babies! Margot tells me there is a scientific reason I enjoy being a breeder and this explains her conclusion: Puppy love — it’s better than you think: Pets trigger our ‘feel good’ hormones, research suggests
I hope you have a great weekend!
Best wishes,
Julie
If these pups are anything like your past litters then they will come on the 21st. 🙂 Your pups like to be born on important days for me. Birthdays, anniversaries….
Brittany and I both request the yummy gingerbread cookies. They were wonderful (and fun to decorate) last year and I’m sure the two mamas will want to help clean up. Get those Swedish hands to baking! I will be making oatmeal scotchies down here in TN. and thinking about last Christmas. Miss you all.
No Gingerbread cookies this year. I made cinnamon shortbread, cardamon rools, and Honey cupcakes. I have another honey desert planned to bring to my DVM– whose side profession is “bees.” I thought it would be nice to bring in a treat made from honey from his apiary. I also found this recipe for Altoid brownies…I just have to try that one. God help me but I also have a craving for Lukefisk!!!!!
I hope not that soon Jennifer! They need to bake a little longer. 🙂
@Julie
Christmas and New years counts too!! 🙂 What’s Lukefisk??
@Jennifer
If you have never heard of or eaten Lukefisk (or lutefisk) then you are lucky. I can feel the gag reflex working….Lukefisk is a gelatin like, horrible smelling white/ cod fish product. It is dried, then soaked in lye (Yes, the chemical), soaked in water, cooked and served. It is an aquired taste…….Julie, please stick with the Altoid brownies and let us know how they turn out.
