My new filters came this afternoon—I felt like a kid on Christmas morning—couldn’t wait to try one out! I wanted to test out the UV filter on my usual subjects. None to be found—way too windy for the birds, and wrong time of day for Ziggy & Company. Finally located a plant that wasn’t being blown to pieces.
At the time, I did not notice this bug!
Julie, I don’t think I’ve lost my Martha Stewart colors. I do think the clarity is better with this filter than my old UV filter.
Now for the toddler…
Raccoons are to me what deer are to Julie. However, even I have a soft spot when mom brings her two toddlers to the cat food bowl. This one was a little camera shy.
I barely had time to get out the door and focus the camera, so my settings are a little off.
Now to test out the new polarizing filter. I wonder what the decoy, er…Rhona, is doing tomorrow morning? 😉
I feel the same way about raccoons but they are cute. I used to like them until I came home around 1 or 2 am, turned on a light, and there sitting on the kitchen table was a raccoon. We both jumped and he took off to the left and I took off to the right. Luckily our spoodle liked to chase them. I sent him after him in case he was still there.
Very nice. I want a polarizer but can’t decide which lens to get it for. I hate coons but the toddler is pretty cute!!
You guys are all so good! Chris shared some really great pics he took of Nikon and I.
I had better luck with macros this weekend, will have to share…
@Liesje, I think if you get one for the largest lens you have you can then get adapters for the smaller lenses. I have not done this myself but have seen the adapters when i was shopping for something else.
That bug is awesome, great how insects in general can camoflage themselves.
Carole, I’m curious to know what new filters you have moved to, seems the most common UV filters are Hoya, B&W or Tiffen (multi-coated I’m sure)… or have you gone to a Heliopan 16 layer super hard multi-coated UV filter!!
I have been using neutral filters just for scratch protection and have thought of new filters. A linear polarizer is coming with/for an internal focus lens but I would like to hear your thoughts on other filter necessities, in addition to a hood of course.
Hal, I have always kept a UV filter on my lenses since back in the SLR days. The new multi-coated filters that I purchased are B+W. I haven’t had an opportunity to try out the circular polarizer yet—I’ll post the pix as soon as I do.
I just have the crappy hood that came with my Sigma lenses. I rarely use the hood, but did for the UScA Sieger Show pix because of shooting in the rain. The best person to ask for advice on camera equipment is Julie! She is much more knowledgeable and will not steer you wrong.
Carole your pictures are not photographs they are pieces of art.
Thank you Julie.
