Yep—here I am, stuck in last year’s pool. If only I had Duker’s address!
Note to self—can’t shake off water with ball in mouth!
Hehehe! Howie hates it when he gets splashed—whimpy American!
Hey, I was just having a little fun!
Come on, Howie—you don’t have to be so stuffy…
Yeah? Well then, take THAT!
Here’s a little more water for ya—just in case your thirsty.
Uh oh! Maybe I shouldn’t have done that…
Don’t let my crazed look scare you. I am very calm in the house! 😉
Much better 🙂 I know that “crazed look”! Who’s the sable buddy?
I wish I was Kayla right now! It’s about 90 + humidity IN my house, and I just finished cleaning the carpets so I’m hot, the house is hot from the machines, and even more humid from the damp carpet. And I just checked, it’s the same heat index right here in GR than it is by you in Florida, Carole. Ah, Michigan, the land of weather extremes! The dogs are banned outside until the floor dry, so they are hot outside (but I keep telling them inside is no better, outside they are digging a hole and lying in the cool wet dirt). I feel bad for them b/c they are so hairy and black but there are plenty of GSDs in Florida so they can’t complain, right? If we owned the property and had a real fence I’d be getting myself one of those pools that’s about 3′ deep…. I actually like this heat and humidity but of course it had to come the day I planned on cleaning!
Yes, you of all people should know that crazed look! Why do you think I love Nikon so much? They might have different fathers, but those two could be twins!
Kayla’s sable buddy is Howie. He is from American show lines. Kayla is obsessed with Howie—I think it is because she loved Omar so much.
Lies, you should not be cleaning in this hot weather! Go play in the sprinkler or something.
The ball thing is hilarious!
Chris, this dog is hilarious! I’ve never had a dog who makes me laugh as much as Kayla. I bred GSDs for over twenty years and had some mighty fine dogs during that time. Kayla is the best dog I’ve ever owned, and yes, she is an Alta-Tollhaus pup.
I love these pictures along with the narration.
I feel the same way about my Alta-Tollhaus trio, Carole. Wonderful fun water shots – Howie and Kayla look like best buds. Note to self: fill pools so my doggies can stay cool in the 90 degree + heat tomorrow.
Carole the pictures with the captions are GREAT!
Carole, do you have any advice on how to take action shots? Any special setting or lens I should use with my D60?
Nice pictures!! The captions are hilarious as usual. 🙂
Great pictures! Go back and compare these to last summer your photo skills have really improved…and they were already good last year!
Were we all able to have such unbridled spirits! Fabulous photos and subjects … fun, fun, fun!
This is a combo reply to Jennifer & Julie
You are right Julie, these are much better than last summer’s pool shots. If you remember, last summer that camera drove me nuts! I think the main difference in the quality of my photos is that I no longer use the automatic settings. Fully automatic has always been completely worthless to me. The Sports mode did OK, but still not good enough. Last summer’s shots were in Sports mode.
Switching over to Aperture or Shutter Priority and even straight manual mode has worked the best for me. Jennifer, usually I shoot in Aperture priority mode and keep my eye on the shutter speed. For my camera, ISO 500 seems to work best for the time of day that I’m shooting.
Try the Sports mode and go take a bunch of action shots. See which are the best shots and check the settings. It will give you a starting point. Then switch over to Aperture or Shutter Priority using the settings from your best photo.
Make sure that your camera is set to AF-C (auto focus-continuous) and that will help you lock on your subject.
I almost always use my Sigma 70-300mm lens. Sometimes I am way too close to my subject, but I prefer it that way than being too far away. I chose that lens because I hated it even more than I hated this camera last year! By moving away from the automatic settings, I was able to master both. Now I don’t leave home without it. However, my next lens will definitely have Vibration Resistance—this one does not.
@Carole, Thanks, I’ll try that. 🙂
