My lesson for today—I should have used a polarizing filter! I used a polarizer for my previous gator shots and I should have used it today. These photos are not as pleasing and I’m kicking myself since this guy was so close (too close) to me. This just means that I will have to try again!
Where’s that filter when I needed it?!! Yes, this one turned towards me.
I’m not certain as to the type of shell. These broken shells are along the water’s edge in big dirt nests. The shells are very thin—maybe gator eggs? No bird in their right mind would lay eggs in this location, and turtle eggs would not stand a chance.
Carole, please do not get eaten by an alligator in the pursuit of photos!
That is why I had Rhona with me!
So how close is too close? No worries, if the alligator came after them Carole would sacrifice Rona to save her camera equipment.
Close enough that when he turned toward me, I was looking for an exit route and double checked that Rhona was closer to the water than me! I am not about to lose my equipment. 😉
Turtle eggs?
You should do before and after pictures ….no not of Rona before and after the alligator…..
before and after pictures of the alligator with and without the polarizer filter….
I also considered turtle eggs. Both gators & turtles lay large quantities of eggs, yet there weren’t that many shells. The reason that I considered gator eggs is because the nest is directly next to a gator trail that leads to the water. Would a turtle build a nest there? I don’t know.
I will put up before and after photos…no, not of Rhona, that would be too messy! I have also ordered new filters, and can’t wait to try them out.
Julie, thank you for this blog!
