I was just stung by a scorpion! I didn’t even know that FL had scorpions! Did you hear that, Lin? Something to add to your “Things to See in Florida” list.  From living here and in CA for a hundred years, I know better than to stick my fingers where they can’t be seen.

This little bugger was on the handle of Cassie’s water bucket! When I touched the handle it stung me. Talk about excruciating pain. Julie, that little sting makes putting Liquid Skin on an open cut seem like nothing at all. This scorpion was only about an inch long—I cannot imagine getting stung by the larger version.

I am happy to say that this particular evil creature is now in scorpion heaven. Cassie is 14 years old—thankfully, the scorpion stung me and not my old girl.

Sorry—no pix of this one!

Yikes! I did know you guys had them but we camp in the Everglades when we’re in Fl so we know what to look out for.

Yikes! Are you ok? What is the treatment for scorpion stings?

Don’t you die from scorpion bites? There is a reason we need a good hard freeze every year and this is just one example of why. I hope you are OK?

After being stung, I will hope for a hard freeze here next winter! Yes, some people die from the stings or can become very ill.

I am just thankful that it stung me and not Cassie!

I have no idea about the treatment for scorpion stings! Once I removed the stinger and killed the scorpion, I felt much better. However, I would say that if the stinger can’t be found, it would be best to seek medical attention. For those of you who know me—that says a lot! I am fine today, and my finger is still there.

Yikes, that is downright scary. I have to admit that the creepy crawlies in Florida freak me out a little bit.

I hope your hand feels better!

Carole!!! I have betrayed you…I didn’t know that you didn’t know we had scorpions. I will check with my friend who also has been bitten, she mentioned that there is some routine you need to follow after the sting. So sorry, and hopefully you won’t be stung again. JH 🙁

PS Peter has whacked a total of 4 toads…YUK 😛

My routine of hopping around and hosing my hand with water didn’t do too much. The swearing and removing the stinger seemed to do the trick. That and lots of soap & water. I do not plan on a second round—although proper treatment would be worth knowing.

I’m lost in space………. Anyway, the toads are really GROSS!!! Thankfully Rudi just finds them and Peter WHACKS them. Whack…another toad bites the dust. I’ll be on the look out for scorpions. J
