This has been a sad week for me because my dear Miami died. Miami was born with a special gift of being able to calm any dog she ever met. She ably assisted me countless times in rehabbing innumerable aggressive/fearful dogs for their owners. I always knew I could count on her to step up when asked and to instinctively do the exact correct behavior for the situation. So, we worked together as a team while the years went quickly by, until, this week, her good heart finally just wore out. “Mi ami” means my love in Spanish and she certainly was that to me and a whole lot more. Rest easy, my dear sweet girl, and, if such things are heavenly possible, please put your impeccable gentle courageous spirit into my next Julie – puppy. I miss you so much.
Sorry for your loss, I am so glad you captured the photos that you did before she passed on. You will have the pease of mind remembering the special qualities that she possessed, and the numerous other dogs she was able to help.
Hi Margot,
You do not know (of) me but this will not stop me from saying how sorry I am to hear the passing of Miami. She is a looker. I love the feminine headshot of her – simply beautiful! How old was Miami?
Yes, time does fly too quickly when Miami and you worked closely together over the years. May her spirit and memories live on forever.
It is my belief we learn from our experience with our companions even after many years later.
Take care!
Bernard
Beautiful. I am sorry for your loss.
Margot—words are inadequate. You and your “team” have a very special gift in what you are able to do with fearful/aggressive dogs. I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful teammate. May the spirit of Miami hop right into your next Alta-Tollhaus pup!
Thank you for sharing such beautiful photos of Miami.
Love,
Carole
Her last full day was sunny and beautiful. Perfect. Your photographs capturing her last day are beautiful.

Margot, I am so sorry. Miami was clearly a special girl – she has helped many and her work will live on. My sympathy to you during this difficult time.
Thank you, everyone, for all the kind and thoughtful words of consolation. I appreciate you taking the time to express your sympathy because it really does help to dissipate the burden of grief. Love and thanks to you all, Margot
We are so sorry for your loss. Hearing of your loss brings back memories of losing our wonderful companions too. Their lives with us are so short, yet their impact travels the length of time with us.

She’s a beautiful girl. I am sorry for your loss.
Wonderful and so uniquely talented, Miami. A beautiful, gracious lady, who, as Margot so finely described, knew how to communicate good behaviors to even the rowdiest upstart. And, I know, having seen it first hand with my Buck. I recall being rather apprehensive when Margot brought out Miami to ‘socialize’ with Buck on a visit to Good Shepherd Farm, but with their dual confidence and Miami’s inner magic, that dear ‘rascal’ of mine was kept in line.
Truly a good Shepherd…You will be forever missed, always remembered, Dear Girl.
Run free Miami….Margot, we are so sorry to hear of your loss….God Bless. Kelly, Craig, and Brittany
Margot,
Deepest sympathy for the loss of your beloved friend and team mate. Thank you for sharing your beautiful last photos of “your” love. Julie H
