These might not be giant-sized shuttle photos, but this is what a launch looks like from my backyard. Just thought I’d share a few Space Coast pix with my MI family.
The dot on the far left is Discovery, the two dots on the right are the rocket-boosters.
Trail from the rocket-boosters.
Trail from Discovery. These last two shots were taken almost at dark.
Very cool photos of a great subject, Carole. Science and technology in the sky and surrounded by nature on the ground. Just where do you really live? Disneyworld!? Fantasy Island!? Are Bambi and Thumper your neighbors, too?
LOL Just Cinderella and Snow White
LOL you are so bad!
As the matter of fact, Margot, Bambi ran through earlier in the morning! I have some terrible photos to prove it! Obviously had used the wrong settings for early morning. Thumper doesn’t stop by too often—too many cats!
Come for a visit, Margot. I’ll show you what FL really looks like.
Carole, love the shuttle photos. Peter is going to post his photos too! He tried to save pix last night but for some reason our computer is not cooperating, hence the difficulties getting photos of Rudi to the blog. Anyway, isn’t it cool to step out your front door and see the space shuttle?
It’s obvious from your photos you live closer to the Cape than us (Naples) and interesting that Peter and I are able to observe a launch from an area that takes 6 or more hours to drive to. The shuttle rocks! We should plan a shuttle outing sometime. Lived here for almost 17 years and haven’t been to an “up and closer” shuttle launch. I’ve a friend in Melbourne! 🙂 JH
Looking forward to seeing more pictures!
Yes, I am much closer to the Cape than you. When the shuttle leaves the launch pad, it normally heads NW, over Daytona and then over us. We’ve tried to view a launch up close a couple of times, both times the mission was scrubbed.
Awesome photos Carole. These were taken at night? What camera settings did you end up using?
Thank you, Julie. The launch was around 7:45, so not quite dark. I took a couple of test shots and wasn’t happy with my results. Rather than take a chance on missing this opportunity, I shot in shutter priority, using manual focus. ISO 200, 1/8 sec, at f/7.1. The “trail” pix were at ISO 400, 1/8 sec, at f/4. All done on the monopod.
Very cool pix Carole – all from your backyard?
Yep, my backyard!
Thank you for sharing with us up north, the pics are great.
