“The quality of mercy is not strain’d,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blest:
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.”
Spoken by Wise Portia/The Merchant of Venice/Act 4/Scene1 – Shakespeare
I said good bye to my dear friend of thirteen years yesterday. I picked her when she was only two days old. It seems like only yesterday – where did all those years go? Portia taught me patience, compromise, and more patience. A free, mischievous, independent spirit, she never met a dog or person she didn’t like. I miss you, good girl.
My condolences, Margot. Beautiful picture. *hugs*
We are so sorry for your loss. Sleep softly, sweet Portia.
I’m sorry for your loss. She’s a beautiful girl.
Dear Margot, may your wonderful memories of Portia help sustain you. Never an easy time, for sure, hug ~ j.
You were both blessed, Margot—you to have Portia and she to have you. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Oh Margot –
Words at a time like this are so very cumbersom, it’s never easy to say goodbye but thanks for sharing Portia with us all.
~Gina
Margot, I am so sorry. I wish there were some magic words I could say to make it better. Give your other dogs some extra love.
Margot I’m sorry for your loss. It’s so hard to say goodbye to one of our 4 legged children. Remember all of the great times you have had with her.. Portia will always have a special place in your heart.
Margot- I am so sorry to hear of your loss. What a beautiful picture of your good girl. She looks like a free spirit – they are the best kind, aren’t they? There is no doubt in my mind her 13 years were happy ones and knowing that should give you much comfort…
Thank you, everyone, for all your very kind and thoughtful words. It means a lot to me. I believe that no matter how painful the loss, the love we knew will always be greater.
