Here are a few bird shots from our garden, nothing fancy but even the plainest of birds are beautiful I think 🙂

This is an adult male starling , with his winter plumage ,you can tell as their winter plumage has more white spots 🙂  but he is obviously starting to change as he has a  blue tipped beak which is  seen as part of their summer plumage 🙂

This is a male blackbird , we have a nursery rhyme about these birds in our country , about baking them in a pie .. eekk!!!

This is a female blackbird , she is ironically brown unlike the males!!

They are not the best shots in the world but its great fun snapping. I will post more soon 🙂

I need a long lens for birding now though ;0)

I think those photos are very nice! I agree with you that even the plainest of birds are still beautiful, especially when captured in a photo and you can study some of the more subtle aspects (like the blue tipped beak).

And I meant to add in the last post – happy birthday!

Love your pictures! We have that rhyme about blackbirds baked in a pie here too – I just read it to my kindergarteners last week! 🙂

“I need a long lens for birding now though ;0)” Ok what lens are you thinking of? I dream of getting the Nikon AF-S 400mm f/2.8G ED VR Autofocus Lens. But I would settle for the Nikon Zoom Telephoto AF Zoom 200-400mm f/4 G-AFS ED-IF VR. Maybe the zoom option would be a nice trade off for a slightly slower lens f4 instead of f2.8 and then the price difference of $8,200 for the 400mm compared to $5,500 for the zoom is another advantage.

aww well I was thinking of the 300mm f4 with a 1.7 tele converter, or the 80-400 VR (this is probably the most affordable one for me 🙁 and I could use it elsewhere) , but there are many I’d like , the ones you listed would be dreamy!!! I am thinking of getting the 1.7 tele converter for my 70-200mm , seemingly it doesn’t diminish image quality or AF IQ although you lose the f stops.
mmmmmm decisions!! I’d even consider Sigma again, a chap on flickr uses the Sigma 100-300 f4 and the results are gorgeous!

GREEN grass, leaves? Who has that? lol.

I was inspired. I went to my grandpa’s apartment to snap pics at the window in front of his bird feeder, but he was out and the door was locked. Does using a feeder to bait the birds count? When I was a toddler my grandpa would “read” the bird book to me and I knew all the birds. Now I only remember a few.
