Yesterday I got a call from a concerned citizen regarding a baby wild turkey that was stuck under her front porch. When I arrived the mother turkey was strutting around the house “clucking” for her baby. The baby turkey had somehow managed to get caught behind some lattice work under the front porch. I was able to pry the lattice work loose and rescue the youngster. It was happily reunited it with its mother.

Back with “Mom”!
Taking a nap….
After a brief rest they were on their way…
Mother and child reunion! Turkey’s are very dedicated mothers, I am so happy with the good outcome. This has got to be your favorite part of your job. I think we should start a pool $1 to enter have to guess the animal and date of your next rescue.
The rescues are definitely the best part of the job.
You are right about the turkey mothers. This one would not leave without her baby even when humans were around. I could see she was concerned about the baby but couldn’t do anything herself to help it.
The wildlife are very lucky to have you & Jack! This mother would have been there clucking all day if you would not have helped rescue her child. I’ve always heard people say “turkeys are stupid” and since interacting with them I have not found that to be the case.
~Oh turkeys, if they were only prettier~ 😉
