  • Seals at Chatham Harbor

Yesterday I took my mother, sister and brother-in-law to Chatham Harbor.

Julie, Jack pronounces it “Hahba.”

Andrea, as you know, the proper English spelling is “Harbour” !

Chatham Harbor is a working harbor.

It is naturally protected by Nauset Beach, which is a sand pennisula.

While we were there this boat was coming in with its catch.

The fishing boats attract seals and seagulls looking for scraps.

After the fishing boats unload their catch they hose down the decks. The seals and seagulls hang out at the stern waiting for any pieces of fish to get flushed off the deck.

Sometimes there is a fight over the scraps!

Absolutely charming. I don’t think I have ever seen a harbor that was a working harbor only, or maybe I have and never thought about it? I wonder if the fishing harbors are like farm land? With land being gobbled up by MC-mansions and other non-farm purposes.

Thank you for sharing more of the uniqueness of the Cape Code area.

There are quite a few working harbors on Cape Cod. They are feeling the pressure from people with pleasure boats.
The fishermen in Chatham like to say “Chatham, a quaint drinking village with a fishing problem”

Lynda,
Every time you post pictures of Cape Cod, it makes me want to invite myself over 🙂 It is so beautiful and I want to see the seals in person. Thank you for the pictures.

Funny you should mention spellings Lynda. I have a difficult time when I write to my Aunt and friends in England because half my spelling is English and half American. Sometimes I worry they think I can’t spell anymore!

The photograph of you, your Mum and Sister is lovely. You should get it framed.

Thanks for the very interesting photos and captions. I love that area of the world!

Hi Lynda,

Beautiful photographs.

Your sister and you look like you might be twins. Are you? I have a twin sister, Linda.

Super photos Lynda!! It reminds me of the Fishersman’s wharf, don’t know if its a working harbor still though. The sea lions there stink to high heavens!!

Love the photos. You must live in one of the best spots for great pics and places to go. My mother in law was from Lowell, Mass and she most likely would say Bahston Hahba. Hope you enjoy the visit from you sister and family.

Awesome pictures, Lynda! I’ve never been that far north, but I think I would love that area.
