Chief wants to say happy 2nd birthday to all his brothers from the Hoss x Zucca litter!
The second one I think he resembles his brother Ben.

He recently had a big day outside with his Dad playing with his herding ball – we gave it another chance as he loves it so – no broken basement windows this time, but he did get a sore nose so back in the “spookhouse” it went (check out his croup in the action shot – pretty impressive, huh?).

Then trying to convince dad to let him in the spookhouse and helping dad mow the lawn.

I am attaching some photos for your viewing pleasure.
My naughty son was channeling his inner war-dog – can you believe the trench he dug! Just kidding – he had some help from dad – Jack had to dig out the septic thing and Chief would not stay out of that hole! Good thing the lid weighs a ton or he would have went for a very nasty swim. The rest are pretty self-explanatory – Xmas pix of Chief and Jack. The constant pestering of Jack for his coffee – no way though -not even for kisses. I have said it before, but I will say it again – Chief ADORES Jack. I often tell Jack he is Chief’s man-crush. He just laughs.
Chief is doing quite well. He is strong and smart and healthy. He bounces when he walks. He is the best watch dog. He constantly checks out that window- if you say “who’s that?” he flies to all the windows to check it out. I think he sleeps with one eye open – he seems to never rest. Jack’s job now requires him to work second and sometimes third shift, and I cannot tell you how much safer I feel alone knowing I have him with me.
I tried a new thing with him about a month or so ago. Since he was little, he could always retrieve an object that was visible, but I didn’t know about something not visible. Well he has these balls he loves to play with in the living room, but they often roll out of sight under tables, etc. where he can’t reach. I got sick of crawling around finding them for him, so for the hell of it I said, Chief, go find your ball. I am not kidding, he went right to the coffee table, laid down, and pointed his nose toward it. It was right there! He has had no training in this, I don’t even know what you call it, but he can do it!

I have been thinking about our last “echat” and what you said about Jack and how dogs always love him and how he doesn’t always take the best pictures. For a hoot, I am sending two of my absolute favorite photos of a much younger Jack (circa 1995) with a very young Buddie. I love the one where they are nuzzling – to me it is the definition of a “candid” photo as they are so much in love they are completely oblivious to my presence.

Also, check out that ponytail on Jack…..And because you know who (Chief – Hoss x Zucca) demands equal time, I have included two of my favorites of him as a youngster with his dad also. And what a perfect subject to look directly at the camera during his bath.

Also, I have sent some recent winter pictures of Chief taken with my new little point and shoot camera. The Nikon you recommended is really cool, but unfortunately not priced within my monthly “mad money” budget. It is more like something to set money back for, but I can use the p & s just to get used to digital format, zooming, etc. and work up to the Nikon. You were so right about the totally annoying lag time – I noticed it right away. Half the time you miss the shot you want! I would love for everyone to see these winter actions shot of Chief when they are actually timely (usually my pics are out of season). I especially love the one where he is standing by the fence looking all serious.

and the one where he is running toward me – his feet are off the ground

This one, well, something pissed him off.

Hope you like them as much as I do.
Kimberly
ps – have you noticed the skyrocketing price of dog food?
