Birthday Adventure
My birthday started out like any other day. Dad left me explore outside after lunch and I was making a big circle around the house when I picked up a new strange scent. I know the scents of many animals and this was different and new to me. It sort of smelled raw to me. I followed it out in the woods and soon came up to this grey animal with long poky hair that was chewing the bark on a tree. I sounded my alarm bark and my Dad called me back to the house. He made me wait in the house while he removed the animal. Then we investigated where the animal was eating the bark. Dad praised me for calling the alarm and told me to “leave-it”. He told me it was a porcupine and that I would have been hurt bad trying to catch it or play with it because the long hairs would stick in my mouth and paws and I would need to go to the vet. He said I was a very smart dog to know not to try and catch it and that I had very good breeding! Thank you Alta-Tollhaus.

Ilea TD
Ilea earned her AKC Tracking Dog (TD) Title at Ann Arbor’s tracking test today! She completed her track within 5 minutes for today’s best time. The judges were Marilyn Johnson and Mrs. Susan Eldred. Eleven dogs were tested and just five passed. Ilea was very pleased and after completing the test, tracked her way back to our car. Dad was also very pleased!

Ilea passes Tracking Certification Test
Hi Julie,
Today in the midst of rain, wind and lighting, Ilea passed her Tracking Certification Test in Sleepy Hallow State Park.
The cover was tall weeds & grass and the track took her on a right turn up a hill, then a left turn across the top of the wind swept hill, another left turn down the hill, another left turn back toward our start and finally a leather glove on the right side of the trail at about 500 yards for a glorious finish! There was never a doubt she would complete the trail as she crossed where deer had bedded down with no hesitation and stepped over where deer had dropped pellets! Great job Ilea!
The pictures show the Judge, Deb Huff, with Ilea and also Ilea and me.
