Isa’s Day of Fun

Saturday was the Kazoo Area Foot Chase, a benefit for Michigan C.O.P.S., a nonprofit organization that helps the survivors of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It was a great day–we woke up at 3:00 a.m. to be able to drive down from Leelanau County to Portage to surprise our son, Sean, a recruit at the Ferris State University Police Academy.  Sean, as well as 13 other Ferris recruits, ran in the annual 5k race, which simulates a police foot chase. A team of “suspects” gets a head start, and the 220-odd racers race after them, with “witnesses” along the way pointing the way the “suspects” had run.

One of our first stops, the Sonic drive-in, Grand Rapids. Here’s Isa, surveying things in the parking lot as we waited for our food.  Yes, she had tater tots.

Isa Update

Here’s a link to a little video of Isa with one of our cats.  Who says dogs and cats can’t get along?

Isa has a very specific relationship with each of our three cats: the video shows how she and Qwiddy interact (well, when they are calm, at least–they also have a riot playing. I will have to video that sometime). With our two-year-old black long-haired cat, who is very skittish all-around, Isa is very gentle, and never “rushes” her. If I have Isa lie down, sometimes this cat will actually not run away–Isa has licked Chica’s ear very gently and respectfully. On the other hand, our 12-year-old Tiger cat, Fooey, gets in trouble for getting into our food (plates, counters, stoves, etc.) and Isa has taken it upon herself to monitor this cat, correcting him and chasing him away when he gets into trouble. This cat gets into trouble enough that, the other day, we said, “Isa, get the kitty!” and she went looking for this cat to correct, even though it was Qwiddy who needed to be “gotten.” So funny! I think we need a “cats” category on LDT.
Here she is outside, in the sunlight:

And a long coat’s favorite way to stay cool, if she or he is not in a lake: a mud puddle!

Pet Nicknames

I was just thinking of all the nicknames we have for pets–mostly goofy nicknames! What do you guys call your pets? I’ll admit:
Cats: Chica–”Chica Pet” (Chia Pet reference)
Qwiddy–mostly just “a girl” lately, because of the way he screeches like a girl when he and Isa are playing. Also called “Clockwork” at night, because every night when it’s Lathan’s bedtime, Qwiddy appears on his bed–like clockwork.
Dog: Isa–”Puppy Girl,” “Isa Pet,” “Isa Marie . . . Presley” (my middle name is Marie), and my personal favorite, which is my husband’s name for her: “Nuffy NooNoo.” He will be SO embarrassed that I have told you that!!! heeheeee Maybe I will tell him the name of the blog has been changed!
