This is from a friend of mine who is very active in tracking with her Standard Poodles. I have not shared her Poodle News reports on the blog in the past, but with so many people interested in tracking I thought there might be some interest reading the “Poodle News.”
Poodle news for Oct 9, 2011
While most of Canada is getting great for their Thanksgiving, Jim is taking pictures in Fredericton, New Brunswick and the poodles and I are resting after driving the better part of 3 days to get here. The vacation was Jim’s idea, but he did invite me to find a dog event. So Hubbell and Carlos got into the local tracking club’s double day event, but only for the second day. Saturday, Sharon Smith did 6 TD’s, all passed, and one each urban and urban X, neither passed. Today, she did have 3 urbans, one X and one TD, who already passed yesterday.
The draw was in a pretty dark parking lot near a Tim Horton’s that wasn’t opened and our time was 6:30 AM. Local time was 7:30 AM and Hubbell drew the first urban. I was more worried about Carlos drawing the second X as it was going to get hot. But we had to wait so it was so dark that the track layer couldn’t see to start the track until 7:15 and then it had to aged for 1 hour. Hubbell was wearing her pretty pink harness and took right off the flag for the first leg of 50 meters, the minimum. She turned right and had a second long leg with another right turn and found a sock. I was surprised at the sock, having trained for plastic or wood, but she stopped nicely and looked back with her tail wagging. We continued under a single board barricade along side a building and then the only logical turn was left into the parking lot. She looked a while, but did go left and then another left turn at a wide drive for the final glove. She was very happy, and me too. She now has TD, and UTD in Canada.
The other two Urban teams also did fine today and passed their tracks with the first articles in pavement and glove on the grass. Hubbell had the only building to track around.
The first X failed after a very long time on the starting legs. Carlos then took the field and did his old dog usual. He did fine for 3 legs and the first article on pavement. He just cut the MOT corner early and was working his way back to the correct track when the judge gave us the whistle. At that point, he was hot and tired and I put his collar back on without the harness so that he could be off duty for the rest of the walk. He has taught me so much about tracking but the judge didn’t think that she could even read his style. She is not a poodle fan. She didn’t like Hubbell’s corners either.
Jim went out to look for photographs while the rest of us rested up at the Comfort Inn in Fredericton. We just got back from a lovely walk down the street to the botanical gardens and a path through the woods that lead us back behind the hotel. I was able to walk through open woods to get to the back parking lot and can recommend this hotel as definitely worth staying again should anyone be in the area.
So far a lovely trip and we are off to Prince Edward Island for a couple of days before going to Nova Scotia next week.

I am a poodle fan. They are so intelligent and they don’t shed. Then again, I’m getting a German Shepherd, so obviously fur-related convenience is not high on my priority list!
I grew up with a poodle, he was my constant companion, Touche was his name, we were so close when he passed I was virtually ill and missed a week of school, suffered from a broken heart. 🙁
You are a good person, Lorie.
Thank you Carole…what I am is a dogaholic, I found 2 pittie mixed puppies on Saturday at the side of the road, took them to the Shelter and while there had to look at the adoptables because a friend I was with insisted, saw the saddest Cairn Terrier just in a mental meltdown, her senior owner died 6 weeks ago and the family honored her memory by turning her little dog into the shelter, I just couldn’t leave her there to die, so I have a new Cairn Terrier, shes a neat little dog and won’t let me out of her sight, after being in the Shelter 6 weeks she’s so happy to be free and loved again. 🙂
AHHH Lorie there will be an extra special place for you in heaven for that, plus
I hope, some good kharma.
That is wonderful, Lorie. Also, I want pictures.
