Snow Dogs
The sad news is that I had to give my favorite lens back. So now I only have my kit lens.
Carole you wanted snow pics, you got ‘em! bwahaha. These are from earlier today. I was hoping for some sun since it makes for stunning pics of the black and red dawgs, but it was gray. The dogs got their Christmas present – an off leash romp in the snow and a raw lamb bone.

Julie you’d be so proud of me today. “She who NEVER cooks” not only made something from scratch, but invented it along the way. Well, I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s ever had some leftover smoked lake trout and made a cracker dip, but making *anything* from scratch, let alone without a recipe, is so not me! Phil was going to the store on his way home so I had him pick me up some chives and cream cheese. My new dip is very very finely chopped smoke lake trout, chives, and colby cheese mixed in with cream cheese and garlic powder. My mouth says this was one of my better ideas.
ETA: My condolences to Molly Graf for the loss of Eagle vom Eichenluft, 25 times SchH3, IPO3, FH2, V-rated, KKL1. By all accounts an amazing dog and I’m truly sorry I never got to see him in person. Eagle was one of the dogs that made me fall in love with this breed, even just through pictures.

You are doing fine with your kit lens…which one is it and which did you have to return? Your improvised dip sounds fantastic! I am proud of you!
I had to return the 55-200mm VR (as well as the bag, the D40x, its kit lens 18-135mm, the UV filter, and the tripod). That leaves me with my D90, kit lens, my SB-400 flash, macro adapter, remotes, an old tripod my dad gave me, and a small duffel I got for Christmas that will have to be the camera bag. The D90′s kit lens is the 18-105mm VR. I want several things and can’t decide what to get first: a good 50mm, a telephoto to replace the borrowed one, a polarizer, a ND filter…..
I asked for snow shots and got them rather quickly. If I ask for some of that dip, what are my chances for such quick results?
Love all the shots! Is that Mr. Mello Coke showing some toofs?! Chopper is such a sweet girl putting up with those nasty boys!
I love these photos. The second one gives the impression of wolves running in the snow and it’s amazing you caught the “wipe out” as it happened in the fifth shot. Of course the last ones are perfect – I am asuming this was just before going home? DeNiro and Kora go totally crazy when we let them out to play in the snow, but at some point I’m hoping to get some action shots.
@Carole
Quite the opposite! Notice that in no pictures is Chopper the one being taken down or dunked in the snow! She’s quite the alpha b*tch. They all take turns ganging up on Coke or Nikon, usually Chopper coordinates the take-down and then the other moves in for some cheap shots on the rear legs. In the pictures she usually is in the rear of the pack but she is the fastest and most agile. Her herding judge said she is “heady” which I guess means she can predict movement, so she knows which way the boys are going to turn and basically cuts them off at the last second. I have yet to meet a dog with Coke’s patience! You need to see the videos of him and Ana, lol.
Of course Chopper is in charge. There was a reason she became Chopper rather than Lamby.
Ha,ha, Ann! That is a good one!
That, Coke. He’s such a poser! I love the tail-less shot in #8.
