Trip To The Farm

Pieka and I went to my family’s farm this weekend for a visit.  Shane and the boys (Whiskey and Louie) stayed here in Columbus, since it was just an overnight trip and it gave the boys a little break from the Monster Puppy.   ;)

No pictures of Pieka in this group – we tracked in the back fields but I figure you’ve all seen enough pictures of tracking for awhile.   But I thought I’d share some pictures of the farm with you.  It’s 450 acres in southeastern Ohio.  Pretty much everything you see in these pictures is our land.  I love it and am sad everytime I leave, especially in the summer and early fall, when it is most beautiful.

Fall is my mother’s favorite time of year.  It’s a little early, but “Farm and Field Days” is next weekend and this means there will be lots of traffic past the farm – it’s a “Century Farm”, which means it has been in my family for over one hundred years.    My mom takes decorating seriously.

  1. What a beautiful place, I love to get out of town and go to the country also, it helps me to kind of slow down and regroup. Thank you for sharing the photos.

  2. Awesome! I love farm houses, especially the tall white ones with wooden siding. Ironically I grew up in one, in the middle of the city! But it was originally the first house in that neighborhood. It was 100 years old and when we were little we made up wild stories about all the scary parts of the house (dirt basement, unfinished attic, huge cistern in the ground, old iron horseshoes we dug up).

The land in your photos looks beautiful.

    • Lies, you would LOVE our farmhouse, then! It has a “tunnel” around the basement. There is a little, creaky wooden door that you open and slip into a tunnel with no windows that circles the house. It was just used as a storage cellar…but it is so creepy!

  3. I love it. 450 acres wow! My word for the day is “Heaven” this too looks like Heaven! Beautiful.

  4. You can tell that a lot of love has gone into this farm. Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!
